Summary:  Large fireball in the North sky. Going from east to west. A large flash like lightning and then it turned a bright green, then orange as it burned out. Only lasted a second or 2. The initial flash seemed to light up the whole sky.

Full Description & Details
I was on my porch reading, facing north. It was late in the evening, maybe 10:00 or 11:00. I looked up from my book and saw the object. It flashed a huge white light like a welding arc. It even seemed to light up my surrounding area briefly. It then looked like a green ball, then it burned out with a slightly orange tail. It only lasted a couple of seconds, but was very bright.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?
