Full Description & Details

I'm a Canadian student that had been visiting my relatives in the Seattle/surrounding area for two weeks in early March. On the 12th (I might be a day plus or minus on that), I was with my mother, uncle and grandmother in her living room. The house is in Des Moines, Washington State, and has a view of Puget Sound. On the other side of Puget Sound is Maury Island and Vashon Island. (I had to check MapQuest for the island names). I'll explain our view from closest to furthest away. Most immediately in front of our window were the rooftops of local Des Moines buildings. Past that, there is the water of Puget Sound, and past the water, probably 3 or 4 miles away, are the Maury and Vashon islands.

It was evening/nighttime and I was laying on the floor when my mother/uncle/grandmother pointed towards the window. I immediately sat up and caught the last few seconds of the green object decending vertically. It was dark outside, so it was very difficult to differentiate Puget Sound from the opposing shoreline. It was also very difficult to get a sense of depth or of the size of the actual object. From our distance, the object looked comparitively around twice as large as the moon looks against the night sky. Of course the moon is much further away, so my analogy is just to help you get a sense of how large it looked to us. It probably would have looked as large as holding a quarter or 50 cent piece at arms length away from your eyes.

The green ball had a very distinctive trail behind it as it decended towards earth. It was virbrant green, not just a green tint, this was almost a neon green. Once it got towards what seemed like ground level, it dissapeared. I missed the first part of it, but my relatives insisted that it moved in a path horizontally for a few seconds first, and then changed direction to vertically plummit. What I saw was just the vertical dive though, as they saw it about a second or so before me.

Since it was hard to get a sense of the distance, I'm not sure exactly where it would have impacted. One of my relatives thought it landed in Des Moines between my grandmother's house and the shore of the harbour. Another thought it had landed fairly close to the shore, but in the water. From my own perspective, it looked like it was further out in the water, probably towards the other side of Puget Sound a few miles away. I had initially thought the object hit the water and that had accounted for its immediate dissapearance. Now I think its probably more likely that the object was much much further away, and went behind the shoreline of our view.

Again, distance was hard to judge, but if it was far enough out, it might have impacted with the Pacific Ocean. My instinct is to say that it probably hit land somewhere in between, but I haven't seen or heard any news of such an impact, and this was a fairly large object.
