UFO Sighting Reports > Full Text View (multiple)

Date:

November, 2003

Location:

Chandler, Arizona, United States

Summary:

Large fireball, flying slow and low, headed on a northeasterly path, with chunks of fire breaking off the back. Made no sound. Visible for 10-15 seconds before being obscured by palm trees. I cannot believe thousands of people did not see it.

Date Reported:

Sighting Time:

Day/Night:

Nighttime

No. of Witnesses:

Duration:

10-15 seconds

Appearance / Description of Object(s)

For a split second I thought an airliner was on fire, or disintegrating. It was a round fireball, with chunks of fire breaking off the back end, almost as if in slow motion. It was very surreal, like a firework. The chunks would flip out and twirl in pinwheel fashion. The object itself appeared to be made of magma. The impression I keep getting over and over again is the Medusa, for some reason.

Size of Object(s)

Relative size was probably the size of a nickel; actual size, who knows, maybe 65-70 feet in diameter.

Distance to Object(s) & Altitude

It was probably a few hundred feet high, and less than one mile away.

Description of Area / Surroundings

Suburban area, late night. I was standing by the pool looking over the fence at the sky, talking on my cell phone. It disappeared in the direction of an Indian reservation, which is largely unpopulated.

Full Description & Details

I was talking to my brother who lives in Seattle on my cell phone by the pool, in my backyard. It is usual to see airliners approaching Sky Harbor (Phoenix) in this area. Being an aviation enthusiast, something in the air caught my eye - I looked up and to the near West, where a large fireball was slowly moving North-Northeast towards the Indian Reservation. It was in level flight, for the most part, with a slight bob. Sparks and chunks flew off the back of it. It was visible for a good 10-15 seconds at least, before some trees obscured my view of it. It was totally unreal. I was certain there would be thousands of witnesses. I am surprised there was not. I called the airport and air force the next day to see if something had crashed. The air force took a report.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

Not really. Unless somebody staged an elaborate hoax using flares and remote control balloons, or something. That's all I can think of.

Witness Background

Project Accountant for large Engineering and Architecture firm, BA Business Administration, University of Oregon 1999.

Views on UFOs, before and after sighting

I've always liked the subject of UFO's since childhood. I read a lot about them, but had never seen such a convincing example. Everyone has seen strange lights of course, but this was large and obvious. I feel lucky in a way, but I can't share the story too much, since people don't really care.

Other Comments

It is a very bizarre feeling to have seen this thing. It's like walking into your house and finding the dog walking on the ceiling, upside down. Totally surreal. You keep asking yourself over and over 'what is that'? 'what IS that'?! Then it's gone. I thought of every explanation I could to resist the UFO explanation.

Summary:

A formation of faintly glowing orange lights, outlining a shape like an open letter "M", gliding from SSW to NNE in total silence for a period of 10-15 seconds. Very quiet, and the soft light gave an etherial feeling.

Duration:

10 - 15 seconds

Appearance / Description of Object(s)

The formation was like an irregular letter "M" being spread open -- similar to the constellation Cassiopeia, though not so open. The formation consisted of from 12 to 16 very faint glosing orange lights, outlining the edges of this shape, like a formation of gliding birds -- glowing, orange-light birds.

Distance to Object(s) & Altitude

Description of Area / Surroundings

Just a few hundred yards east of the beach in New Smyrna Beach, Florida -- a fairly highly developed tourist area, filled with hotels and small beach homes.

Full Description & Details

I was standing in my yard, facing north, at 9:26 EDT, when I heard the engine of a small plane overhead. I looked up and saw the flashing light of a small plane moving more-or-less NNE to SSW, consistent with the sound of the plane engine. The plane was fairly low and was flying toward me, causing me to lean back and bend my head back. I watched it for only 2 or 3 seconds -- only long enough to see if I could locate it from the sound. As I started to move my head forward again, I saw, above the level of the airplane (which already had left my field of view), a formation of faint, pale orange lights moving in almost exactly the opposite direction -- that is, SSW to NNE.

The formation was like an irregular letter "M" being spread open -- similar to the constellation Cassiopeia, though not so open. The formation consisted of from 12 to 16 such lights, outlining the edges of this shape. There was no sound at all -- total quiet, and the formation glided quietly but quickly across the sky.

The sky generally was cloudless -- at least in the area of this formation; and, other than seeing it was above the level of the small plane that had just flown over, I had no frame of reference to estimate its size, altitude, or speed. But the speed and the quiet, combined, created strong impressions.

The speed with which it crossed the sky created the impression that it was quite low -- but it had been at least higher than the small plane, and the total silence causes me to question if it really could have been that low. On the other hand -- again reacting to the silence -- it seemed to be moving just too fast, and be too big, to be so high that there would be no noise at all.

The overall impression was like a formation of birds gliding overhead -- but they would have to be birds that glowed with a faint orange light. I tried to imagine it as a cloud in the "open M" shape, somehow light from underneath, but it moved entirely too quickly to have been a cloud.

My total sighting of this formation lasted for perhaps 10 seconds, after which the faint lights faded into the ambient glow from the lights in the town.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

I can't think of anything. I considered birds or a cloud, but the formation moved entirely too quickly.

Witness Background

60-year old attorney.

Description of Area / Surroundings

It was a rural area near the airport. Also, near the area is a nuclear power plant.

Full Description & Details

I was about 11 or 12 years old, I think. My family was building a house in Romulus near the Detroit Metro Airport. On the house we only had the first floor up and was working on the second floor. Most of my family was there. My father was on the 2nd floor and the rest of us on the ground. We all looked up at the same time and saw a hugh shaped "saucer" flying slowly over us. We saw the detail of it and knew we had never seen it before. We watched as it slowly went over us, as if it was watching us build. The next day the Detroit News had reported that there was several UFO sightings near the Detrit Metro Airport. Did anyone else see this?

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

Witness Background

I am a bookkeeper for a testing company.

Appearance / Description of Object(s)

Bright white large oval object. there were no observable markings or anything else visible on the outside of it.

Description of Area / Surroundings

Urban area with no military bases in the area or anything else I would consider as being significant.

Full Description & Details

Whilst travelling home in my car with my wife when I saw a very bright oval shaped object rise up from behind a house. Although it was very bright it did not hurt your eyes to look at it. The object was slowly rising steadily above a house in the street. I stopped my car to observe it the object then started to move off to the right with its speed increasing. The object then moved to the right at an estimated speed of about 20 miles per hour. It then abruptly change course by about 80 degrees and was then obscured by other houses. I restarted my car and chased after it down the side street and at this time it was out of my vision. When it got to a position in the side street where I would have expected it to have been it was gone.

Although I was with my wife at the time, a serving police officer, and we both agree that we saw it. It is disturbing to me that we both seem to have a different recollection of when and where we were when we both observed it, a difference in time of apparently only a few hours. I believe we saw it at about 12 noon however my wife believes she observed it with me later in that afternoon at about 1600 hoursand in a different location. A few days later I decided to go and photograph the same location where I believe I had observed it and with the aid of photoshop I was able to recreate a copy of what I believe we saw.

Date:

Location:

Staunton, Virginia, United States

Summary:

I saw a large triangular "blacker than black" object in the night sky one January morning at about 5:30. It was outlined in red, white, and green lights. It rotated as it moved. It moved completely soundlessly. It moved in a straight line until it disappeared over the tree line to my N.W.

No. of Witnesses:

I didn'/t see anyone else in the park

Duration:

about 5 minutes

Appearance / Description of Object(s)

The object I saw was definitely a triangular in shape. The lights described the shape. It was so dark that it was darker than the night sky. It moved soundlessly and rotated as it moved. The lights outlining this object actually made it possible to see the shape and the fact that it was rotating as it moved. I don't know from what direction it arrived where it was visible. I just suddenly saw it blotting out the night sky. It slowly and silently moved from the park in a N.W. direction. The terrain is so hilly there that it disappeared in a few minutes over the tree line.

Size of Object(s)

I don't really know the size of this object so I will have to guess. When I use the provided test I would have to hold my hands about 3' to 4' apart. I was so dark and clear that size is problem

Description of Area / Surroundings

Gypsy Hill Park is the center of Staunton, Virginia. It is an urban area. The park is well over 100 years old and until the 1960's furnished all the water for the City. The entire park practically floats over underground springs and aquifers. There are no special structures there such as you have listed. It is a park in the middle of a small city.

Full Description & Details

This is my second and last (unless something else happens) sighting. I was walking my dogs in our local park, Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton, Virginia, U.S.A. It was about 5:30-6:00am on a January morning. It was still completely dark. The roadway through GHP is curvilinear and tree-lined. However the center of the park is open and free of obstruction. The atmosphere was very clear because it was very cold-no fog, mist or anything else that could obstruct vision or modify what was seen. It was "clear as a bell". I saw the outline of a large triangular object passing over the clear area of the park. I know it was triangular and also rotating because of the lights that outlined the edge. One row of blinking lights would begin to disappear while another would become more visible. The object "drew" a triangle as it moved. It blocked out the stars as it moved. There was absolutely no sound. It reminded me of the movie "Close Encounters" without the sound track. I read the report submitted by the man in Hawaii and what I saw was similar except that what I saw was outlined with lights (red, white, and green) and did not spit apart while I could see it. I looked around for someone else but I was alone, at least as far as I could tell, because of the darkness. The object just simply moved out of sight after a few minutes.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

I wish someone would explain what I saw. I would have to say "no" that by all conventional standards, I can't explain what I saw. I have always been a very early riser and I have "seen it all". This defies anything I have seen. My only question is the red, white, and green lights. They seem so earthly, almost mundane.

Witness Background

I am a horticulturist, landscape and garden designer. I have a college degree. I also perform a lot of work for non-profit organizations especially those that emphasize animal welfare.

Views on UFOs, before and after sighting

By the time of this sighting, I had read a lot of books on the topic because of my first sighting in 1974. I never went out with the expectation of even a remotely duplicate experience. I have never looked for things like this-just comets, the aurora, other natural phenomena. I actually don't remember reading anything about triangular shaped objects-saucers, spheres, almost obelisk-shaped objects, yes. This was a surprise.

Appearance / Description of Object(s)

It looked like a big helicoptor without the tail but bigger and it had windows all around it but it was not shaped like a cylindar or wheel. I couldn't tell which end was the front

Size of Object(s)

The Object was like 30 yards long or a little less.

Description of Area / Surroundings

Ft Belvoir is really near where I was the base actually has water front property. I was within 5 miles of the Mt. Vernon Plantation. There was a a house across the water with a green light at the end of the pier and I remember it made me think of the book "The Great Gatsby".

Full Description & Details

I was out on a first or second date with a girl and I pulled off the Mount Vernon Parkway (Close to George Washingtons home) into a parking spot that over looked the Potomac river. We talked for about 3 hours there and at one time a police came up and put his flash light in my windows to make sure we were doing something we weren't supposed to but we ended up staying parked and talking since we were caught up in conversation.

The object I saw we very quiet I didn't hear it I only saw it when I looked out over the water. It was about 120 Yards away from me and it looked to have windows that gave off a yellow light as if the light was bright in the vessel and the windows were tinted a bright yellow and I couldn't see anyone inside.

I was so amazed I stopped talking and just watched the object for about 10 minutes. It hovered over the water for like 7 minutes then it started to go up (straight up). I watched it go up higher and higher at a very slow speed then all of a sudden it took off like a shooting star it seemed to hit the atmophere and curve down a little bit and then disappeared into space in like 1.5 seconds or faster.

I asked, "Can you beleive that?" and she asked "What?"

She had never seen it.

I told her what I saw and the only reason I never said anything when the object was right in front of us was because it was so obvious.

It never made a sound even when it "blasted" into space so I understand why she never saw it and I wished I would have said something to more validate what I saw.

I really questioned what I saw like 2 weeks after but there was no way a glare in anyway could have made me see what I saw. I don't question it anymore I know I saw what I saw.

If I wouldn't have shut up and paid attention I might have never seen the craft either so I can see why she didn't see it.

Afterward I was so mad that the Police wasn't around or that he didn't come back because I wanted to report what I saw and see if anyone else had seen anything.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

I can't explain it. The object flew straight up and then took of diagonally without making a sound.

Witness Background

I now work with computers at a really good company and I have a excellent job with a clearance. I used to work rebuilding starters and alternators at the time I saw the craft.

They were too far to have an idea of shape and colors.

Size of Object(s)

Objects seemed to be slightly bigger than a medium cat A/C.

Distance to Object(s) & Altitude

Approx. 25/30.000 ft

Description of Area / Surroundings

Alicudi was at that time an absolutely dark area. On the island there was even not electric power and around the island only the dark Tyrrenian Sea.

Full Description & Details

Preface: I have now a civil pilot license ATPL though I am out of duty.

When I was 15 I was spending some weeks at Alicudi, the smallest island of the Aeolian Islands, in Sicily, Italy.

At that time Alicudi was famous to be the last place in Italy (or maybe even in Europe) to be without water, gas and electric power.

The result was an extremely dark night with wonderful starred nights.

With 6 friends I spent every night on the beach sleeping inside sleeping bags.

At the second night, staring at the wonderful sky, a girl spotted some strange light and showed to everybody. We were lucid, not high and with eyes absolutely accustomed to darkness, and we were all able to see stars and recognize planes, constellations, the Mily Way and even satellites!

The lights we saw had a very strange features. You could say they were San Lorenzo stars and follow them... Until they suddenly stopped and brills. Then, after a very crazy mouvement and another brief stop, they would fly again to another direction and again stop in the middle of the sky or even disappear from sight, in the deep space (and not behind a cloud or a mountain).

We were too excited and shocked, not being able to explain ourselves what kind of object we had tha chance to spot.

Anyway, due to eyes accustomed to darkness, we could see many many of these lights, even contemporarily, and in the nights to come. Excpet for the final days of our stay on the Island, due to the rising Moon that obscured/brightned the night sky.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

Absolutely Unidentified Flying Objects due to their erratic mouvements and lack of any conventional light.

Witness Background

Italian teacher.

Views on UFOs, before and after sighting

Full Description & Details

Hi

I just wanted to email and share an experience last Friday 23-09-05. I was driving home with my girlfriend from Shipston-on-Stour to Wellesbourne, we passed Halford on to a straight bit of road with a car in front and two behind. I noticed two red lights one slightly higher than the other behind the top of the tree line. These lights were not flashing and seemed to be going at some speed in the distance. I said to my girlfriend that they looked strange and could be fighter jets!

The lights then came from behind the tree line and I realised that the lights were extremely close and flying low cross the road ahead. I told my girlfriend it can't be jets but maybe a helicopter! There was a black outline to the lights but I could not quite make it out.

They travelled to the field on our right where the object angled revelling 4 equal spaced rows of lights leading to a central bright white prismed light, it seemed to slow and rotate slightly across the field. As I was driving with cars ahead and behind I couldn't just stop, I did turn around but it had disappeared by the time I got back.

This was a fantastic sight which excited me and scared the crap out of me at the same time. It was so close and clear I just wish I had a camera. this is something I can't explain and It would be great if anyone else saw anything similar on the same night!?

I've attached an artistic impression of what I saw that night to give you a better Idea of what I'm trying to explain.

Cheers

Craig

Date:

November, 1974

Location:

Staunton, Virginia, United States

Summary:

I saw a pearlescent object in the dawn sky in November, 1974. It performed aerobatic maneuvers that I have difficulty putting into words. The only way I can describe what this object did is to say that it could change perpendicular directions without what most of us would consider a cornering maneuver. It just "did it".

Date Reported:

9/25/2005 10:29:37 AM

Day/Night:

Dawn

Duration:

The sighting lasted from 3-5 minutes.

Appearance / Description of Object(s)

Previouslyl, I stated that iniatially the object looked like a weather balloon. Since dawn was still a few minutes away at ground level, the object was lit by the sun that was still slightly below the horizon. It was a pearlescent grey, not silver. In fact I would describe the color as "moonstone" because that is one of my favorite semi-precious stones. The color is the main reason I thought it may be a balloon. I don't know if I was looking at part of a spherical object or if it was a saucer-shaped object flying with the flat surface facing me. I could never tell because it was moving so quickly. When it started performing manuevers, I didn't care which it was because I had never seen (and still haven't) like what it was doing.

Size of Object(s)

I don't know the true size of this object. I performed the test suggested. I would have to say that my hands would have to be about six to eight inches apart.

Description of Area / Surroundings

I would have to describe this as a predominantly urban/suburban area. Staunton only has a population of about 23,000 now. I would suspect that it would have been no more than about 20,000 at that time. The area is hilly, numerous trees, but N. Augusta St. is fairly open as it moves out of Staunton to the North. There are no interesting developments of any kind in the area in which I was or the area in which the object was moving. The area simply became less populated in any direction as it changed from urban/suburban to rural.

Full Description & Details

I was walking my dog very early in the morning that November day. I was walking North on N. Augusta St. N. Auusta St. is the uran designation for U.S. Route 11 in Virginia. Route 11 traverses the Shenandoah Valley in a N/S direction. I was crossing the street and looked west (I don't know why because it had nothing to do with the traffic flow). I saw what I first thought was a weather balloon pop over the horizon. Weather balloons were a "hot" topic then so that was what I thought I saw. I was completely disabused of that thought because of what the object did in the several minutes I watched. It traveled from west to north until it looked like it was going to land in the distance but still in the middle on N. Augusta St./Route 11. It performed manuevers that still "boggle" my mind after all this time. It could ascend at an amazing speed. Then it would speed in a perpendicular direction from the ascent. It never lost acceleration on these maneuvers. The object could also descend and move on the perpendicular at the same rate of speed. It could also ascend/descend without pausing. I can't draw right angles on a piece of paper as quickly as this object performed these maneuvers. It never faltered, bobbled, or wavered during these aerobatics. In other words, this was not something being buffeted by wind. It was being directed. Finally, as I stood transfixed, it "popped" back down over the horizon. My father owned the local radio station (WTON) at that time. I called the station and talked to the announcer on duty at that hour. He said a man had called in and reported the same phenomenon I had seen. The description seemed identical to the announcer. He said the man was afraid of ridicule so his call was anonymous. He just wanted to know if anyone else had witnessed what he had seen. I told the announcer to give my telephone number to this man if he called back to check. I never heard from him. I have always wondered who he is. I guess after 30 years, I will never know. I actually drove back and forth through the area where the object disappeared. I thought it might have landed.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

No, because I have considererd all the above. I especially love the planet Venus because it reminds me of one of my favorite "X-Files". Every time I watch that rerun, I think of the sighting I had. I watch the dark sky constantly and have seen many fascinating things. All except this and one other I can identify.

Witness Background

I am a 57-year-old woman. I am from an afflent background. I have a degree in American Literature and a minor in anatomy and physiology. However, my passion is landscape and garden design. I have practiced this profession since I was twelve. I have also done many other things, but as I said, this is my passion. I am a very early riser (about 4:00am) and I take a cup of coffee out on my deck and "commune" with the sky. I have seen every comet, the aurora borealis, every meteor shower, prisms in the sky, you name it. When I go walking early in the morning, i perpetually look up. One never knows what can be missed by looking down at that time of day. I have to confess that I do tend to trip over things in my path because I am looking at the sky. I think that we are here for a relatively short period of time. I am not sure what goes with us where, but there is so much to appreciate while we are here. Besides, why look down when one can look up to our begnnings.

Views on UFOs, before and after sighting

I have been a voracious reader since I was three. However, having said that, I don't remember reading much about UFO's. I had heard of them because of the rash of sightings in the fifties and sixties. I didn't really think about them except to hope that the sightings were not delusions by the people who made the claims. November 1974 turned my brain around. It has been 31 years since I saw what I saw. I humbly offer apologies to all the anonymous people to whom I might have denied credence. If this was an aircraft belonging to our government, why is it still "under wraps". Why does the average person still not see on television, on the computer, or wherever what I saw that morning. Thirty-one years is a long time. Everything has progressed with lightening speed. The unusual is now the commonplace. I have not seen anything that can be used as a comparison.

Other Comments

No more comments, except thank you for reading what I have written. I have been laughed at for mentioning UFO sightinngs (yes, I have one more). I just want to make an official documentation. I also read ahead about the sketch or drawing. I am a miserable sketch artist. I could describe for hours what I saw and have someone else do the drawing. However, I make the average third-grader look like Rembrandt.

An hour at least

Appearance / Description of Object(s)

Very simply they were white roundish lights. Could not add anymore than that.

Size of Object(s)

Holding my arm out then to grab it with my fingers I would say it was maybe an inch or less. Hard to say for actual size as they were the distance of planes. So they could be the size of planes, or smaller if their light aura expands its visual with glow. So, perhaps the size of planes.

Description of Area / Surroundings

Urban area. Lot's of houses and businesses. One very small power plant 5 minutes away from my position. To the North of the location I was viewing the UFO's around 7 minutes away there use to be a small military base. No longer there since 2-3 years. To the South West of the location I was viewing there is some station that sets of an alarm that sounds like it must be for tornado warnings, and sounds exactly as a horn rotating 360 degrees as it's horn alarm fades away and then comes back again and repeats. There is also an airport 20 minutes away South West.

Full Description & Details

Between 5-7pm

Two white lights, circular. At first thought it was perhaps planes, but both stood still exactly at their spots and had maintained their light during last hours of light on to the night.

Distance from my view is about as far as a plane but much brighter. When first spotted them it was still plenty of light and sun and thought them to be peculiar as I recognized that they did not move and were stationary in the sky. These lights did not flicker or flash, just solid white. The position or arrangement of these two solid hovering lights was as follows: They were away from each other about 6-8x the length of thier sizes. And one is higer up than the other, that one being on the right side. So, the left side is lower than the right one. The one higher was about 6-7x it's size higher up. I was facing West to see them, so the higher up one on my right is to the North side, and the lower one to my left is to the south side.

I asked an available passing bystander to see what I was seeing and he mentioned to me dismissively that they must be antenna towers with a light at the top. But they were not, as there are no towers in that area, let alone that high. Again, as high as a plane.

As I arrived home it was night already, decided to grab my camcorder and video tape them. The taping is not great but very visible to show people. These lights remained there for a good one hour, and as I came out of another building they were no longer there. If you could see stars in the day that's what they would look like but more brighter.

If it comes out okay for this formating above I have typed "X's" to better describe the visual position.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

Definately not stars as I saw them in the day. Not animals as again they were stationary. Not clouds because they were luminous lights that shined on thru the night. If any mistake it would have to be man-made, but none seem concievable; hence Unidentified. Blimps can't stay stationary or come in two and that glow. The same for airplanes. I don't know the nature of weather balloons as to wheather they can glow or burn with a white light and appear as two. The best man-made explanation was as the bystander mentioned; two towers with a light on top, but there are no towers in that area especially that high up so airborne.

Witness Background

I'm in delivery so drive all day. Took 3 years of college, don't take drugs and as somewhat of a newcomer to the subject I am a bit intimidated by what the David Icke fellow has to say.

Views on UFOs, before and after sighting

Extreme skeptic all my life, had a very negative view towards those who like to believe in such things. Only 6-7 months ago was presented mathematical evidence that was undeniable regarding things extra-terrestial. Since then have been more educated upon the subject and in Anthropology in general. I don't like to call myself a "believer" but rather someone who is now aware. Again this was 6-7 months ago that my awareness and humble study has occurred, and am reporting a possible ufo sighting that occurred 2 weeks ago. Once or twice I've noticed odd things in the sky that could've been planes or something else, this one is the most unusual and have caught it on video tape.

Other Comments

There is no official organization in regards to this global phenomenon, which would really strengthen the purpose of informing people earlier and explaining many things. This oppurtinity to report in such detail and also this site in general is in that direction. I hope it grows and so may aid more like myself.
