It looked like a star/planet, but then it changed from white to orange , then dimmed and a puff of smoke or a cloud seemed to appear to the right of it. What was stranger is that the cloud left a trail like a jet behind it (slower, though).

Distance to Object(s) & Altitude

Can't estimate that either.

Description of Area / Surroundings

It was over Simi Valley, California - not too populated - urban.

Full Description & Details

We were driving home on the 118 after seeing a movie and I noticed a large star in the sky. It wasn't blinking and I thought it was Jupiter. I told my future-astronaut son to look and he said it wasn't Jupiter, that Jupiter was higher above and to the right of the the moon. This was lower in the sky. Suddenly, as we were all watching it (except for my husband, who was driving) it got brighter - orange - then dimmed, then a cloud appeared to come out of it and move to the right leaving a cloud-like trail. We were going up a large hill and my husband pulled off of the freeway. By the time we all focused again the cloud seemed to dissipate.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

Possibly. Can't think of what it could be, though.

Witness Background

I help run an online nanny service. I'm a wife, mom, author, and I used to teach computer software to adults.

Views on UFOs, before and after sighting

I've seen things in the sky since I was a kid. I guess I just want proof.

Other Comments

I'll just add my 5-year-old daughter's comment regarding if an alien comes to earth. Her advice - "If they're nice, just say hi. If they're bad, run for your life!"
