Full Description & Details

This happened somewhere around 50 years ago when I was a child of 9 or ten. On 103rd street just a block or so East of Cicero ave in Oak Lawn, IL there used to be a Nike missile site. It is currently a Jewel food store (at least it was the last time I was there) and a small shopping mall next to the Arena shopping center.

I was at the head of the driveway watching the heat lightning play as there was a summer storm coming in when I noticed that the radar at the missile site was pointed straight up. Looking up I saw what seemed to be a circular or elliptical object hovering over the camp and casting a greenish glow. I'm sure my mouth dropped open as I gazed at it and then, after what I'd guess to be 15 or 20 seconds the object accelerated instantaneously to a high rate of speed and disappeared over the Northern horizon. I looked at the radar and saw it come to life, hunt a bit and then begin a normal search pattern (just going around in a circle).

At the McDonald school the next day I mentioned the experience and several classmates said that they'd also seen this.

General views? Based upon my experience I sure can't rule out the existence of UFO's. I do wonder though, if they DO exist they must prove the existence of a more technologically (and hopefully more intelligent) race of beings. But why would they be showing an interest in us? Why wouldn't they either simply ignore us or else make their presence known?
