Full Description & DetailsWas then a serving soldier in the British army having been posted from West Berlin to Herford West Germany. I was travelling home to visit my family, who were waiting to join me at my new posting, when I spotted a strange moving light off to my right(approximately due North}. At first I thought it was a large Soviet helicopter on night manuerves. The light travelled erractically and disappered regularly behind buildings and forested areas, only to reappear once into open areas. The light seemed to be travelling in an easterly direction ( the same direction as my self) towards Berlin. As I arrived at the Madagburg area I thought that was it, it would now disappear. Wrong. Once east of Madagburg into a forested area with open areas the light reappeared travelling still in an easterly direction. Upon coming upon a large clearing the light changed direction and headed towards the autobahn intersectioning it. I thought at first that I was going to see the Soviets largest helicopter the equivelent to the the American Jolly Green Giant, wrong again. As the light approached I screeched to a stop behind several dozen other cars on the hard shoulder and watched in amazement as a large very brilliantly light UFO moved across the road at a sedate pace at tree top level no more than 25/50 metres in front of me. By that time I was out the car with a camera in my hand but due to my being stunned by what I was seeing I did not take any photographs. The vessell was saucer shaped both top and bottom with a broad band of swirling coloured lights going around the UFO, it seemed to be quartering the ground and was visible for another 4/5 minutes before disappearing behind the forest. I went to speak to a west German driver who shook his head said No (Nien) and drove away.
