Full Description & DetailsI was having a workbreak with 4 workmates at 3am, when I noticed what I first thought was a relatively slow moving meteor coming out of the "Jewel Box" in the region of the Southern Cross in the South-west. The Light stopped, then for a period (timed) of almost 5 minutes proceeded to travel all over the southern sky in a west to east direction, sometimes backtracking over itself. It alternated between what I can only describe as "meandering" at a slow, sometimes weaving, pace, with periods of rapid straight line acceleration and angular changes of direction, varying its altitude as it did so. The Light, after dilly-dallying all over the southern sky finally headed North slowly, to pass directly above us and only just clearing the Bryderwyn Range to the north of us (hills 300 metres high), on clearing the Ranges it went straight up at a tremendous rate and dissappeared in Saggitarius. The light appeared to be triangular and about 50 metres long (when it passed over us). It made no noise whatsoever, and the colour was a hue of red that I have/had never seen before and can only describe as immensly "calming" and bueatiful. The reactions of my workmates were-one was an excited hyperactive observer, whooping and swearing., two who became very "spiritual" and refused to accept the objects presence basically looking at their feet on the ground and saying prayers (these guys are Maori), one (also Maori) who was inquisitive about the object and talked non stop about "spirits", and myself whom experianced a peculiar sense of calm and peace and seemed to become acutely aware of what was going on around me. We then re-entered our Plant to tell the rest of our (unbelieving) workmates and I then rang the local TalkBack radio station (Radio Pacific) and Auckland Air Traffic Control at Auckland International Airport in Mangere to report the sighting. The ATC logged the call and reported that they'd had no returns on their Radar Screens for Northland and no scheduled flights in the region whatsoever at the time. Witness BackgroundI work as a Casein Operator at a Dairy Factory. I am 40 years old and am Tertiary Educated (BSc in Geology and Physics). I am an amature astronomer and also an aircraft enthusiast. Other CommentsI am an absolute sceptic about "Alien Visitations". All I do know, is that the Light we saw was an airbourne object, that moved in a very controlled manner, and in a way that was definitely not consistant with any aerodynamic qualities of any aircraft that we the general public are privy to have knowledge of.
