Russian Scientist: Government Knows About UFO Bases
Baku Sun - Azerbaijan, Aug. 16 2002
The Aug. 1-2 sighting of UFOs over Baku's oil company district, Bayil, as reported by the opposition daily Musavat raised a few eyebrows ? most of them sarcastically. Did it mean that so- called flying saucers run on petrol as well at anti-matter? According to Fuad Gasimov, academician and head of the Seismological Department of the National Aerospace Agency the often-sighted space craft have bases deep in the Caspian, one off the north part of the Absheron Peninsula, the other in the north sector of the Caspian Sea. ITALY'S Old Masters were recording flying saucers and UFOs in their paintings as far back as the 15th century, according to a scientist in Rome. Roberto Volterri argues that artists dating back to 1406 included evidence of "strange objects in the sky" for later generations to see. R

This five-part debate has covered a variety of topics prompted by the hypothesis of "Rare Earth," a book by Peter Ward and Donald Brownlee that suggests complex life may be unique to Earth. Today in the final installment the participants examine why we haven’t found complex intelligent life, if indeed it does exist elsewhere in the universe. A thread of this debate also picks up on a comment made by Donald Brownlee in Part 4 -- that interstellar space travel may be impossible. R

Rare Earth Debate Part 3: Complex Life
Space.com, July 2002
This five-part debate will cover a variety of topics prompted by the hypothesis of "Rare Earth," a book by Peter Ward and Donald Brownlee that suggests complex life may be unique to Earth. Today the participants examine complex life and the possibility of its occurrence in the universe. Complex life is generally considered any living thing with multiple cells -- as opposed to single celled, microbial life -- and, on Earth anyway, includes everything from the simplest slime molds to human beings. Physics from UFO Data
Massimo Teodorani, Ph.D. - Astronomer
A research project on the UFO phenomenon is proposed in which UFO targets are treated on a par with astronomical objects having no fixed coordinates. Specifically oriented monitoring techniques and strategies involving small telescopes which are connected to CCD detectors, spectrographs and photon-counting photometers are presented. Expected exposure-times for acquiring a good S/N ratio of the target using all the proposed instruments is also evaluated. Finally, physical informations which are expected to come out from data analysis are presented and discussed in detail.

It’s harvest time for crop-circle hype
MSNBC, Aug. 1, 2002
You’d think a professional crop-circle chronicler like Colin Andrews would be absolutely ecstatic: Three films about crop circles are coming out this year, including “Signs,” the subject of Hollywood hype and magazine cover stories. But Andrews is actually worried ... worried that all this hype will bring less respectful amateurs into the, um, field. On the other hand, crop-circle makers like John Lundberg are thrilled. R

Illinois UFO, January 5, 2000 - Case Analysis
Darryl Barker
It’s been more than three years and ten months since the sighting of a huge unidentified triangular-shaped UFO by police officers and others in the early morning hours of January 5, 2000, over the state of Illinois. As a result of my involvement in the production of a documentary that details this UFO sighting, I have had the opportunity to correspond with some of the witnesses over a period of time and stay in touch with developments regarding the sighting. It has given me the opportunity to see how such an event impacts people’s lives, witnesses and non, and gives me cause to stand back and view the entire picture from what I hope to be a humanitarian perspective.
