From the witness: "We heard someone yelling 'There is something hovering over the ship!'... As we looked up, we saw a large, glowing sphere.... It made no sound that I could hear. The light coming from it wasn't too bright, about half of what the sun would be. It sort of pulsated a little and was yellow to orange... Virtually all electronic components stopped functioning during the 20 minutes or so that [the UFO] hovered over the ship. "  View full report

Landing marks near Lake Anten, Sweden; UFO seen in area

August, 30, 1970 - Lake Anten, Sweden

Three round landing marks in a triangular formation were found in the garden of Richard Johansson's small farm near Lake Anten, Sweden. Several witnesses in the area had seen a strange red light, almost the size of the moon, that same night. Soil samples were taken and analyzed, with the results showing an increased level of gamma activity (radiation) in the test samples from one of the landing marks.  View full report

Danish police officer has two close encounters (the Maarup sightings) Featured Case

August, 13, 1970 - Hadersley, Denmark

Danish police officer Evald Maarup was driving through the countryside near Hadersley, when he encountered a brilliantly lit UFO. Suddenly there was a fierce light beaming down on him, his car engine cut out, and the car lights and his radio stopped working. Above him, Maarup could make out a large circular object which he watched for about five minutes, before it moved away rapidly. Three years later, Maarup had another encounter with the same or a similar object at exactly the same place.  View full report

The Stephen Michalak Encounter at Falcon Lake Featured Case

May, 20, 1967 - Falcon Lake, Manitoba, Canada

Stephen Michalak of Winnipeg, was prospecting near Falcon Lake, Manitoba, when he encountered two UFOs, one of which landed on a large, flat rock about 160 feet away from him. After having approached the object and looked inside, the object moved, and something like an exhaust vent was now in front of him. A blast of hot gas shot from these holes onto his chest, setting his shirt and undershirt on fire and causing him severe pain, and leaving burn marks in the shape of a grid.  View full report

Burn marks and holes found after UFO seen close to ground

September, 13, 1966 - Gwinner, North Dakota, United States

Young Randy E. Rotenberger was waiting for the school bus outside his home when he saw "some flashing lights," then an object. "It looked like two bowls put together," the witness told an AP reporter. He saw three "pegs" on the bottom and antennae projecting from the top. Later, "some burnt marks" and tapered holes were found at the scene, each about a foot in diameter and five inches deep.  View full report

Sheriff reveals 1966 UFO encounter and death of dog

"I happened to look up and there was that UFO right above the cornfield, it was just hovering right up above the power lines" about 200 feet in the air, Mathews said. The craft, which Mathews described as white and about 30 feet in diameter, made hardly a sound and emitted no light. "It was just like the ones you see on TV," Mathews said.  View full report

Football shaped UFO hovers near milk barn, scares animals

Sixteen year old Harold Butcher was milking the cows in his father's barn in Cherry Creek, N.Y. Harold heard one of the bulls outside make a noise "like I have never heard come from an animal before." Simultaneously he saw a metallic-looking, football-shaped UFO about 50 feet long and approximately 20 feet thick hovering just above the trees an estimated 450 feet from the barn.  View full report

UFO on Australian Beach (Vaucluse Beach) Featured Case

James Flynn Florida Everglades Encounter

March, 12, 1965 - Everglades, Florida, United States

James Flynn was camping when he saw an object with a large cone-shaped structure hovering near the ground; it was some 75 feet wide and 25 feet high. As he approached the object a beam of light struck him in the forehead, knocking him unconscious and temporarily leaving him partially blinded. There were physical traces on trees and vegetation, and animal reactions from Flynn's dogs.  View full report

Fragment of unidentified object lands in Kallavesi Lake, Finland

August, 1964 - Kallavesi Lake, Finland

Mr. Raimo Blomqvist was visiting with his parents at their summer cottage, when he suddenly noticed a strange, colourful light ball coming from the sky. The light came nearer and turned out to be an oval glowing object. While the object was hovering above the shallow water of the island he saw something falling from the object. Businessman Beauford E. Parham was returning home late on the evening of June 29, 1964. "I spotted a very bright light in the sky . . . coming directly toward my car," the witness said in a letter to a NICAP member. Landed UFO frightens boy and cow; depressions left in field

Young Michael J. Bizon had gone outside his home in Hubbard, Oregon, to let the cow out of her stall. The cow seemed very nervous, and "was bucking all the way." Then he saw a square object about four feet high. The silver-colored UFO was sitting in the middle of a wheat field. It had four shiny legs. The object rose, slowly at first, and then "shot up just like a rocket." A flattened area with three spots was found in the wheat field.  View full report

UFO lands and leaves crater-like depression with holes

May, 5, 1964 - Barnesville, Minnesota, United States

Early on the morning of May 5, 1964, farmer Alfred Ernst, of Barnesville, Minnesota, drove his truck up to his grain drill, when at 8:00 AM he saw a 3 to 4 foot long UFO on the ground. "It was a glowing oval object approximately 1,500 feet away." Afterwards, the farmer and his brother returned to the landing site. The Ubatuba, Brazil Fragments

1957 - Ubatuba, Sao Paulo, Brazil

On September 14, 1957, Ibrahim Sued, a columnist for the Rio de Janeiro newspaper O Globo, printed a letter which he had received, concerning a UFO incident. Accompanying the letter were three small pieces of white metal. The writer of the letter described an event in which a "flying disk" exploded over the beach at Ubatuba, in Sao Paulo Province. One of the samples was analyzed and the results showed a 99.99% pure magnesium.  View full report

Metal artifact found after close encounter on Island of Vaddo, Sweden

November, 11, 1956 - Isle of Vaddo, Sweden

Stig Ekberg and Harry Sjoberg were driving on the Island of Vaddo, Sweden, when they were approached by a flattened sphere shaped object. It settled in the middle of the road, about 100 meters in front of them. After about ten minutes, the object lifted off and accelerated away. At the landing site, the witnesses found a shiny "rock" that was hot to the touch. It was a three-sided piece of metal about the size of a matchbox, and had a heavy weight. Upon analysis, the object was found to be composed of tungsten carbide and cobalt.  View full report
