The first abduction case to be brought to the publics attention was back in 1964. Betty and Barney Hill reported seeing a UFO and experienced a period of missing time while on a long car journey. When they started suffering from bad nightmares they sought help from psychiatrist Dr Benjamin Simon who hypnotised them as to find out what was the root of the nightmares. Under hypnosis they both seperatly described how they were abducted by Aliens and shown around the spacecraft before under going medical examinations. Betty also spoke of the origin of the aliens which were of the zeta reticuli system but at that time it wasn't discovered until 1969. Afterwards they both went public about their experience and it was then when Alien Abductions were born.
One subset of the UFO phenomenon has broken through to the mainstream. These are the infamous triangular craft. The reports are simply too many and too clear. The sizes of these triangles have ranged from small to immense. Most are slow-moving and low-flying; occasionally people describe them as boomerang-shaped instead of triangular. The fact that they fly so low, and so slowly, is a problem that demands an explanation, both scientifically and politically. Complicating the matter are the many witnesses who describe exceptional speed and maneuverability relating to these triangles, such as flat pivot turns or incredible acceleration. (Richard Dolan)
CE-5 (Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind) is a term describing a fifth category of close encounters with Extraterrestrial Intelligence (ETI), characterized by mutual, bilateral communication rather than unilateral contact. Evidence exists indicating that CE-5s have successfully occurred in the past. -- "CSETI has... succeeded in intentionally establishing contact with extraterrestrial spacecraft, on two occasions at very close range, and with multiple witnesses present." CSETI is the only worldwide effort to concentrate on putting trained teams of investigators into the field where 1) active waves of UFO activity are occurring, or 2) in an attempt to vector UFOs into a specific area for the purposes of initiating communication. Contact protocols include the use of light, sound, and thought. Thought - specifically consciousness - is the primary mode of initiating contact.
In 1999 an important document was published in France entitled, UFOs and Defense: What must we be prepared for? ("Les Ovni Et La Defense: A quoi doit-on se préparer?"). This ninety-page report is the result of an in-depth study of UFOs, covering many aspects of the subject, especially questions of national defense. The study was carried out over several years by an independent group of former "auditors" at the Institute of Advanced Studies for National Defense, or IHEDN, and by qualified experts from various fields. Before its public release, it has been sent to French President Jacques Chirac and to Prime Minister Lionel Jospin. The report is prefaced by General Bernard Norlain of the Air Force, former Director of IHEDN, and it begins with a preamble by André Lebeau, former President of the National Center for Space Studies (Centre National D’études Spatiales), or CNES, the French equivalent of NASA. The group itself, collective author of the report, is an association of experts, many of whom are or have been auditors of IHEDN, and it is presided over by General Denis Letty of the Air Force, former auditor (FA) of IHEDN.
Crop circles celebrated twenty five years of age this year. This little known fact will come as a surprise to most people. It will also be somewhat of a revelation to many that when this phenomenon began on that fateful night in Warminster, England, it was in very modest terms in the form of a simple, elegant circle of pressed wheat some 30 ft in diameter. Two and a half decades and some 9000 formations later, crop circles have grown into complex mathematical fractals, in lengths up to three quarters of a mile, in area coverage as large as 36,000 square ft, and in geographic location. Crop circles- or agriglyphs- can now be found in most countries around the globe. The issue is that no man-made crop circle has satisfactorily replicated the features associated with the real phenomenon which has baffled scientists and researchers.Worldwide, some 4000 crop circles have been created by a force totally at odds with modern science. (Freddy Silva, History of Crop Circles, The Crop Circular)
The number of documented general sightings in the modern age numbers approximately 120,000, of which 20,000 have been described as landings. Numerous surveys and opinions polls conducted over the last 50 years consistently report that between 5%-10% of the US population has seen what they consider to be a UFO. According to the United Nations, since 1947, approximately 150 million people have been witnesses to UFO sightings throughout the world
Since 1977, the national space agency of France CNES has been helping civilian and military authorities understand the precise nature of Un-identified Aerospace Phenomena (PAN). The unit involved is the Rare Aerospace Phenomena Study Department (SEPRA) based at the CNES technical centre in Toulouse. Since 1977, the department has developed a precise analytical methodology and today has accumulated a considerable database. The SEPRA database is comprised of more than 2200 different cases, with some 6000 eyewitness accounts and approximately 100 sightings from aircraft.
"The infrastructure needed to maintain and expand the level of secrecy which can deceive presidents and CIA Directors and senior congressional leaders and European Prime Ministers and the like is substantial - and illegal. Let me be clear, the entity which controls the UFO matter and its related technologies has more power than any single government in the world or any single identified world leader. The current state-of-the-art in secrecy is a hybrid, quasi-government, quasi privatized operation which is international - and functions outside of the purview of any single agency or any single government. ‘The Government' - as you and I and Thomas Jefferson may think of it - is really quite outside the loop. Rather, a select, tightly controlled and compartmentalized ‘black' or unacknowledged project controls these matters. Access is by inclusion alone and if you are not included, it does not matter if you are CIA Director, President, Chairman of Senate Foreign Relations or UN Secretary General, you simply will not know about or have access to these projects." Dr. Steven M. Greer, Understanding UFO Secrecy
There are at least 4,000 humanoid cases (researched by Albert Rosales), also known as Close Encounters of the Third Kind (CE-III), a term coined by J. Allen Hynek. Humanoid" means "having human form or characteristics." The term "Close Encounter of the Third Kind" means seeing or coming in contact with an entity of unknown origin. The encounter may or may not be related to the sighting of an unidentified craft.
This famous UFO case involved the sighting of a huge unidentified triangular-shaped UFO by police officers and others in the early morning hours of January 5, 2000, over the state of Illinois. The officers, from a number of small Illinois towns, were able to track the unknown object and maintain radio contact with each other during the event. Their in-depth testimonies have been fully documented by investigators.
In November, 1986, a Japanese crew of a jumbo freighter aircraft witnessed three unidentified objects while flying over Alaska, USA. This sighting gained international attention when the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that it was going to officially investigate this sighting because the Air Route Traffic Control Center in Anchorage, Alaska, had reported that the UFO had been detected on radar. Captain Terauchi was featured on numerous radio and TV programs and in People Magazine. Within a few months of these events he was grounded, apparently for his indiscretion of reporting a UFO, even though he was a senior captain with an excellent flying record. Several years later he was reinstated. The UFOs in this case were tracked on both ground and airborne radar, witnessed by experienced airline pilots, and confirmed by a FAA Division Chief.
One of the most unusual aspects of the UFO mystery is the Men in Black (MIB) phenomenon. It involves the subtle intimidation of UFO witnesses by strange visitors dressed almost entirely in black. Years of amassed evidence points to a definite trend that is no mere illusion. The identity of the MIB is just as elusive as anything else to do with UFO's. Governement agencies, the CIA, as well as alien entities have been put forward as answers.
"The British Government have long denied they have carried out any secret study of the UFO phenomenon. But they were wrong. Between 1996 and 2000 the Ministry of Defence paid a security-cleared expert... to carry out a study and draw up a secret report on the potential threat posed to the UK by “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” – UFOs. The report asserts “that UAP exist is indisputable...[they] clearly can exhibit aerodynamic characteristics well beyond those of any known aircraft or missile – either manned or unmanned.” But the study attempts to explain the phenomena [as natural phenomena]." The 4 volume, 460 page report of the study – formerly classified SECRET - was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request filed by Dr David Clarke and colleague Gary Anthony, and published on the UK MoD website on May 15, 2006. The classified study, completed in March 2000, was codenamed Project Condign. (source: Dr. David Clarke - http://www.uk-ufo.org)
Numerous public opinion polls from the last 50 years, and from multiple different countries, report very consistent and similar findings: 50% of the population believes in the reality of UFOs; and 5% of the population has seen a UFO.
Scientists have long believed nature has a speed limit. It's the speed of light -- 186,000 miles (299,300 kilometers) per second. And the principle that nothing can go faster would mean most science-fiction tales of interstellar travel are impossible. At that speed, it would take us many generations to reach even the closest galaxies. Now, however, physicists are coming closer to finding out how, in some situations, light may actually travel faster than that. And, there seems to be ways to theoretically circumvent the light speed barrier for purposes of interstellar travel - even within the framework of current physics.
Some supposed UFO sightings have been accompanied by unexplained physical evidence that deserves serious scientific study, an international panel of scientists has concluded. It is the first independent scientific review of the controversial topic in almost 30 years, directed by physicist Peter Sturrock of Stanford University. The panel cited cases that included intriguing and inexplicable details, such as burns to witnesses, radar detections of mysterious objects, strange lights appearing repeatedly in the skies over certain locales, aberrations in the workings of automobiles, and radiation and other damage found in vegetation. The 50-page review, being released today, asserts that the scientific community might learn something worthwhile if it can overcome the fear of ridicule associated with the topic and get some funding for targeted research to try to explain these occurrences.
In November 1975, a group of six tree-trimmers were driving home from work in a truck in the Sitgreave-Apache National Forest in Arizona, USA. The driver stopped the truck when he noticed that a flying saucer was hovering about fifteen feet above some nearby trees. Travis Walton approached the craft on foot, despite the objections of his workmates. He was then knocked to the ground by a blue and white light. When the men in the truck saw this, they were terrified and sped off down the road leaving him for dead. Once they had calmed down, they returned to that spot and couldn't find any sign of Travis or the flying saucer. Five days later, Travis was returned to earth wondering what had happened to him for the past few days.
The Magonia Database was compiled by Jacques Vallee and published in his book "Passport to Magonia." This catalog of cases and reports lists UFO reports where a UFO has landed, or it's occupants were witnessed. There are hundreds of credible reports, many with multiple witnesses, of humanoids in association with landed spacecraft.
No country in the world seems to lack manifestations of the UFO Phenomenon. Malaysia, situated geographically in the heart of South-East Asia, has its share too of this baffling and controversial mystery.
This page is a collection of selected UFO resources: real UFO picture and video galleries, video documentaries, technical data, scientific studies, books, portals, newsfeeds, blogs and forums. In short, by combining info from many diverse sources, our goal is to offer a "starting point" for in-depth info and gems of real value in a labyrinth of (often false) information published on the fascinating subject of UFOs.
Part 1 of the complete French report on UFOs published in 1999, entitled "UFOs and Defense: What must we be prepared for?". This ninety-page report is the result of an in-depth study of UFOs, covering many aspects of the subject, especially questions of national defense.

France became the first country to open its files on UFOs Thursday when the national space agency unveiled a website documenting more than 1,600 sightings spanning five decades.
There can be a big difference in how the Hessdalen phenomena look like. The difference is so big that there might be different kind of phenomena we are facing. These differencies can be seen both in the pictures and in the description from the observers. The phenomena can be organised in different types, based on how it looks like, the movement and how it behaves.
Some pictures of the phenomena and from the fieldwork.

Dr David Clarke, senior lecturer in journalism at Sheffield Hallam University, learned of the existence of the classified Project Condign study in January 2005. Dr Clarke and Gary Anthony made a request using the FOI in September that year. The report was released by the MoD in April 2006. Here is an in-depth background article by Dr. Clarke on Project Condign.
A new report on the current wave of flying/black triangles. Summary: The United States is currently experiencing a wave of Flying Triangle sightings that may have intensified in the 1990s, especially towards the latter part of the 1990s. The wave continues. The Flying Triangles are being openly deployed over and near population centers, including in the vicinity of major Interstate Highways. The behavior of these Triangular aircraft does not conform to previous patterns of covert deployment of unacknowledged aircraft. Neither the agenda nor the origin of the Flying Triangles are currently known.
For more than 20 years, the French space agency has conducted a non-military but official investigation into UFO reports. In its first phase, the project was named GEPAN and its focus was primarily on UFO reports. Subsequently, the project was renamed SEPRA and was assigned a more general responsibility for studying all atmospheric reentry phenomena. This appendix gives a brief summary of the history, mission, operations and achievements of this project. R
The French Government, and its offical national space agency CNES, will restart its official UFO study program. The French gov't has had an offical program to study UFOs for several decades, called GEPAN / SEPRA. It was closed recently, but after an audit, it will now be restarted, with a new director, Yves Sillard. R
The Project Blue Book Archive is a new web-site which will provide free online access to the National Archives Blue Book microfilm collection, and has so far posted about 10% of the Blue Book microfilm. The Blue Book Archive provides a fully searchable interface to high-resolution document scans relating to the US government's investigation of the UFO phenomena. Also available are high-quality CD-ROMs of the microfilms, which can be purchased directly from the website.
On 15 May 2006, under the Freedom of Information Act, the Ministry of Defence published a formerly secret report on UFOs. Much information about UFOs has already been released, both at the National Archives and on the Ministry of Defence's website. But the release of this latest study is different and totally unprecedented.
Excellent overview article on Project Hessdalen, by project leader Erling P. Strand. "Project Hessdalen acquired its name from the small valley of Hessdalen. In December 1981 did the inhabitants start to see strange unknown lights in Hessdalen. It was a high observation rate until the summer of 1984. In one week there could be as many as 20 observations. Project Hessdalen came into being on 3rd June 1983 when people from UFO-Norway, UFO-Sweden and Foreningen for Psykobiophysic came together to discuss what to do with the activity in Hessdalen."
Project Hessdalen was established in the summer of 1983. A field investigation was carried out between 21.January and 26.February 1984. Fifty-three light observations were made during the field investigation. This is the official website of Project Hessdalen, with reports, articles, photographs and other resources.
Strange unknown light phenomena started to show up in Hessdalen December 1981. There could be up to 20 observations a week. This period lasted until late 1984. Today there are in the order of 20 observations a year. Project Hessdalen ran a field investigation in 1984 and 1985, and are now running Hessdalen Automatic Measurement Station (AMS). Many pictures and instrumentation readings have been obtained. PDF version of this overview article, with images and photos.
The report first gives an introduction to the project. Telling about the history of the lights and the running of the project. Then it lists all the instruments, and the arguments for using these instruments. Then it presents the results. All the details about the measured data are in the appendix. The fourth chapter discusses what we learned during the project part 1, and what we should have done differently. At last, there is a conclusion.
Gordon Cooper, one of the nation's first astronauts, died on Monday (Oct. 4, 2004). He was 77. In his post-NASA career, Cooper became known as an outspoken believer in UFOs and charged that the government was covering up its knowledge of extraterrestrial activity.
This page contains complete coverage of the possible discovery of extraterrestrial object at the Tunguska site. The wreck of an alien device has been found at the site of an unexplained explosion in Siberia almost 100 years ago, say Russian scientists. The scientists, who belong to the Tunguska space phenomenon public state fund, said they found the remains of an extra-terrestrial device that allegedly crashed near the Tunguska river in Siberia in 1908.

It was the LITS (‘light-in-the-sky’) in Hessdalen that attracted the attention of UFO researchers from Norway and Sweden in the early l980’s, and since then many others from around the world. The Hessdalen LITS were the first to be subjected to scientific scrutiny using a whole host of hi-tech equipment. Hessdalen really was the scene of "Science vs. The UFO". R
The UK Ministry of Defense has published the results of a once-highly-classified official investigation into the existence of Unidentified Flying Objects. The full report of "Project Condign," which is entitled "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) in the UK Air Defence Region", is available at this site for download in PDF format.
The Findings and Recommendations of the Project Condign report are contained in this Executive Summary.
The Main Report (Volume 1) describes the Background, Methodology used, the Data Base and the Statistical Analysis. For downloading purposes, please note that Volume 1 has been split into several sections.
Volume 2 - Supporting Technical Point Papers covering topics relevant to an understanding of the phenomena. Volume 2 is also split into several sections for easier download.
Volume 3 considers classified radar performance data and contains an assessment of relevant technologies in the context of potential military applications and an assessment of UAP as potential hazards to aircraft. Volume 3 is also split into several sections.

The purpose of this website is to preserve and show how popular culture has depicted UFOs [and especially flying saucers]. The site is intended to preserve and display, for anyone interested in the subject and for students of popular culture, the imagery of UFOs and Flying Saucers presented in popular culture. Features a Gallery of over 1,000 comic books withcovers that display images of UFOs and Flying Saucers.
As detailed below, I consider the Condign Report to be a very useful and valuable document. The report is valuable as a case study of the risks inherent in scientific research being conducted in secrecy, including the risks of inefficiency and ineffectiveness. R
A major wave of UFO sightings occurred in 1967; even by official Air Force figures it was the 4th largest in terms of sightings reported, yet no one talks about it. The special significance of the 1967 wave is that it occurred during the one full year of investigations by the University of Colorado UFO Project.

It utilises the classification system outlined in 1976 by US researcher, David Webb, in ã1973-Year of the Humanoids.ä Webb currently maintains a computer listing of humanoid cases called HUMCAT.

I believe that I have found several occurrences of what is identifiably the same type of object based on a fairly obscure but noticable common feature (protruding tail). Of these, two are photographic cases, and four are accompanied by a drawing.
In the study of UFOs, two theories of the origin of UFOs stand out - the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (ETH) and the paranormal hypothesis (PNH). While I do not currently find that the data is sufficient to support either theory, I believe that paranormal theories of UFO origin have had a significant effect, and that, in general, that effect has not been beneficial to the advancement of the study of UFOs. I would not claim that paranormal theories of UFOs are invalid, but I would tend to say that they are unprofitable, in the sense that they predict everything, and, thus, nothing.
This article will now look at many different stories of crashed aerial vehicles of unknown origin that occurred over a period of more than a century. Curiously, these events appear to be related in one striking manner. During the course of my studies into UFO waves, I discovered that a significant number of reported UFO crashes appeared to occur during or near waves or flaps that related to a cycle determined to have been 3.19 years in length. R
A sighting is considered unidentified when a report does apparently contain all the pertinent facts necessary to suggest a valid hypothesis concerning the cause or explanation of the report but the description of the object or its motion cannot be correlated with any known object or phenomena meteorological astronomical or natural.
This chapter does not argue against skepticism. On the contrary, it demonstrates that critical thinking is a double-edged sword: It must be applied to any claim, including the claims of skeptics. We will see that many of the skeptical arguments commonly levelled at psi experiments have been motivated by non-scientific factors, such as arrogance, advocacy and ideology.
"The balls of light which appear in the Hessdalen valley in Norway are exemplary of anomalous atmospheric luminous phenomena that occur frequently at some locations on Earth. The apparent correlation of luminous phenomena with magnetic perturbations, radio emission, and radar tracks, found by Norwegian researchers, led some Italian physicists and engineers of the EMBLA Project to reanalyze the Norwegian data." Abstract of the article available online, full article available for purchase and download.
It is in that spirit of truth and honesty that we've cooked-up the following exchanges from a mock hearing, circa 1956, during which Capt. Ruppelt (utilizing his actual quotes) testifies before a skeptical Congress. The Committee Chairman, Senator "Mo Lasses" - a man more interested in grandstanding than anything else - has the floor.
"The UFO Experience" no doubt represents the best and most objective introduction to the UFO problem available.

There are an extensive number of extraterrestrial races known to be currently interacting with Earth and the human population. In a 1998 interview, Clifford Stone, a retired US army Sergeant who served in the US Army for 22 years and participated in covert operations to retrieve crashed extraterrestrial ships and extraterrestrial biological entities (EBE’s), revealed there were a total of 57 extraterrestrial races known to the US military.
Over the past few months I have been asked over and over again what I thought about this book. I had done some preliminary checking on Corso a few years back when I first heard of him via the Army History Institute.
A lot of people have heard of something about "MIBs" without really knowing any of the details. The Knowles family CE-II encounter with an ovoid-shaped UFO on the Nullarbor Plateau in Western Australia January 20th was right on target in terms of time and place, according to the 61-month wave cycle first proposed by Dr. David Saunders back in 1971. At least two other UFO encounters of major importance occurred that same night in Australia and Tasmania. If the indications are correct and this is not an isolated incident but the beginnings of a major UFO wave, we will have to reconsider the significance of this long-term prediction... R

On June 27, 1982, a year after Reagan entered the White House, Ronald Reagan made one of his most famous alien remarks when he hosted Steven Spielberg in the White House. From my earliest memory I knew beyond a doubt that my life was different than other children's lives. I feared the visitors that would come to my bedroom unseen by my parents in the night.
A Roper Poll claimed that nearly four million Americans have had certain "indicator" experiences and therefore had probably been abducted by aliens. But a study of 126 school children and 224 undergraduates shows knowledge of aliens is related more to watching television than to having the relevant experiences. R
It is curious that while instances of alleged abduction by UFO aliens are rife in North America, they should be considerably less virulent in the Spanish-speaking regions of the world. This is made all the more curious due to the fact that one of the earliest cases, and the one most readily memorable, is without question the Antonio Villas-Boas abduction (Brazil, 1952). R
In the typical "alien abduction," the victim is paralyzed by some unknown force, taken to a small circular room, and then examined and probed by a number of large-eyed, gray skinned, hairless, short creatures. Tissues and cells are sampled and subcutaneous implants are often installed. R
As claims about the reality of alien abductions multiply, the assertion is increasingly heard that psychology offers little or no insight into how such experiences could occur if they are unreal. Abductees are normal people.
Until clouded abduction reports are placed in the true paranormal arena they belong, ufologists cannot expect mainstream scientists to seriously investigate UFO sightings. There is no proof that extraterrestrials are kidnapping people. There are tens of thousands of credible anomalous airborne sightings by equally amazing numbers of impressive and reliable witnesses to suggest many UFOs are real. Ufologists need to work with what they have the best chance to scientifically prove. R
Around 1994, the UFO problem began to interest me. I had always possessed an average level of interest in the subject. I owned exactly one book on it, and caught an occasional documentary on television. In other words, I knew nothing of value whatsoever about the problem of UFOs, very much like most people.
Any beings capable of bridging the vast distances between the stars would be able to clean our clock when it comes to science and engineering. Visitors from other worlds – should any appear – would be enormously ahead of us from a technological viewpoint. It may surprise you to learn that the same is true for any aliens we might tune in with our SETI experiments. R

Would irrefutable proof of intelligent extraterrestrial life in the universe have any effect on religious ideology in the U.S.? The UFO Community maintains there are several reasons the U.S. government has withheld information on the UFO phenomenon (and its component aspects). A reason prominently offered is that there would be a religious crisis in this country. Yet, in my research I could find nothing to substantiate this premise. This conundrum led to the hypothetical question: if a mass UFO landing were to take place how would pastors, priests and rabbis address the event to their congregation? What if, in the weeks that followed a face-to-face contact, we found out (as the UFO Community's leaders proclaim) these obviously technologically superior beings had no religion?
The Alexander UFO Religious Crisis survey addresses just one of many problems facing the UFO Community: how would organized religions in the United States react to confirmation of contact with an advanced extraterrestrial civilization. The results of this pilot survey are straightforward and remarkably simple. The theologians surveyed would not feel their faith and the faith of their congregation would be threatened. The following results, based upon a 23% return (230 surveys) should have a significant and meaningful impact on the UFO Community, its doctrines and attitudes.
Junk Science is the proper designation for the many outlandish, irrelevant and unsupported hypotheses debunkers have employed over the years to dismiss UFO abductions (some of which I will discuss in future articles). Non-junk Science - the real thing, based upon the scientific method - begins by amassing and studying all the accurate, relevant data before any serious hypothesizing takes place.
The following is a presentation of events which occur during a typical alien abduction. This information was obtained from many abduction reports that I have studied.
To understand the autopsy footage, it is necessary to look beyond it. For example, we can look at the story of how the film fell into the hands of UFO researchers. R
This is a formidable book (almost 700 pages) about a controversial, difficult, and confusing subject. That line should indicate why it will not be well read by our academic colleagues. However, for anyone with the slightest serious interest in the topic, it should be. Persons wishing to immerse themselves in the many dimensions, layers, and schools of thought about alleged UFO abductions cannot find a more eclectic and stimulating pool.

The reception of unconventional or extraordinary claims in science has come under increasing attention by sociologists and historians. Scientific anomalies have sparked scientific revolutions, but such claims have had to fight prejudices within science. This essay offers scattered reflections on the adjudication process confronted by protoscientists (science "wannabes") wishing admission into the scientific mainstream. My comments here are not intended in support of proponents of the paranormal (for I remain a skeptic, as defined below) but to help produce a more level playing field and a greater fairness that might help all scientists.
There is a wide spectrum of levels of consensus and belief, and of the conditions required to achieve them.

One of the most interesting things about doing this [UFO] research as I do it, is getting to know the other researchers or witnesses better and learning about their other interests or talents.
The following are excerpts of conversations from Apollo Astronauts on the Moon to Mission Control - which show that the Astronauts came across some strange and hard-to-explain structures and unusual sightings of unidentified craft - while on the surface of the Moon. The following Apollo Astronaut conversations were mostly taken from the out-of-print book "Our Mysterious Spaceship Moon" by Don Wilson (Dell, 1975):
One of the cornerstones of both the Paranormal Hypothesis (PNH) and the Control System Hypothesis (CSH) is the contention by Vallee in several references that "there are too many landings".
I'm sure that you have read about a scientist named Nikola Tesla. It was his work in science that had brought about modern day UFOs. Since 1955 the United States has developed and maintained a secret military base 85 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada, known by several names, such as Groom Lake, Dreamland, the Box and the most popular name, “Area 51.” President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed an executive order on August 19, 1955, restricting the air space over Groom Lake, Nevada, which is still heavily in force today.
Over a period of four years from 1999 to 2003 I unfortunately had the opportunity to study the effects of such psychoses first hand, and from this I believe there is a very strong argument against this simply explaining the alien encounter experience/scenario.

A nondescript farmer in Switzerland purports to have taken the most stunning group of UFO photographs ever. Since the advent of his claimed contacts with ETs from the Pleiades in the mid-'70s, Eduard Billy Meier and his photographs have been alternately revered and reviled, depending on whom you talk to. For the first time in UFO Magazine, a Meier aficionado gets into fundamentals, not photos: "Pleiadian" philosophy—and prophecy.
In his book, Spaceships of the Pleiades: The Billy Meier Story (Prometheus Press, 1995), Kal. K. Korff makes masses of claims against the reality of Eduard Meier’s contact experiences. Thus the reader who is unfamiliar with the research by Wendelle Stevens, Lee & Brit Elders, Thomas Welch, Jim Dilettoso and Gary Kinder on the Meier case, and unfamiliar with Korff’s background, may mistakenly think Korff’s claims are valid simply due to their sheer number.
The three-tier standard government security clearance levels are well known: confidential, secret and top secret. However just having a clearance at one of these levels does not automatically give access to any information at that level.

For over two decades, from 1948 to 1969, Dr. J. Allen Hynek was a consultant in astronomy to the United States Air Force. There are several levels of theorization relating to the ETH. At the first level of theorization, we have the OEH - the objective existence hypothesis, which states: "UFOs are an objectively existent phenomenon, not a subjectively (i.e. psychologically or culturally) existent phenomenon." At the second level of theorization we have the ETH (and others, including the paranormal hypothesis). The basic ETH may be formulated as "UFO sightings are observations of technological objects which derive from an intelligent, non-terrestrial source." At the third level, we have theories of origin and intent. This article considers the second level hypothesis.

One of the things I have tried to understand, as my research and that of others has revealed ever more suggestive data, supportive of the phenomenal idea that these objects in the Viking images could in fact be artifacts, is the curious "historically anomalous" position of the agency which took the pictures in the first place: NASA. UFOs have been around for more than half a century, if not many centuries, but the “Age of Flying Saucers” didn’t start until 1947. In this essay, I will argue that scientists need at least three modes of thought that I call "curious," "creative" and "critical." These requirements, though they may be quite general in their applicability, come sharply into focus when one deals with anomalies within mainstream science or with anomalous phenomena that seem to reside outside of science as we know it.

For the past fifty years, civilian UFO organizations have been collecting, categorizing and archiving UFO reports. By using proper investigative techniques they have amassed an incredible amount of information. A major portion of this database is drawn from eyewitness testimony, supplemented by films, videotapes, and electronic signal detection. The various U.S. Government projects (Grudge, Blue Book, et al) used the same techniques. As a result, political and scientific entities have casually dismissed the evidence as inconsequential. All the while, various agencies of the United States government and the governments of other countries were using all sorts of advanced technologies for Cold War purposes. For the most part, few of these advanced technologies were used to address the UFO issue. The purpose of this paper is to urge responsible governmental organizations to reassess their position and to allow all available technologies to be used to eliminate the UFO mystery.

On numerous occasions, UFOs have been reported over nuclear power plants as well as nuclear research facilities and nuclear weapons storage bunkers at military bases. (1) A good percentage of these reports occurred at highly restricted government research and production facilities, such as Los Alamos, Oak Ridge, Hanford AEC, and Savannah River AEC. Highly trained government scientists and military personnel, who had been granted top-secret military clearances, made many of these reports.
In one sense, the Condon Report lives up to its title Scientific Study, because physical principles and available data are applied meticulously to more than 56 selected, well-documented "cases" (UFO sightings), with the result that 33 cases are explained. however, as several other reviewers have noted, this leaves unexplained a larger proportion than the 10% or so which caused all the ruckus and forced the Air Force to fund the Colorado Project in the first place. Hence, it may be argued that Condon's carefully written conclusions (the first five pages of the Report) do not logically follow from the case studies.
In 1961, American astronomer Frank Drake developed his famous equation for estimating the number of technologically advanced civilizations in the galaxy. If we suppose that UFOs carry visitors from elsewhere (extraterrestrial intelligences, or ETIs for convenient shorthand), why are they here? The problem with Klass, as opposed to the position of the properly skeptical ufologist, is that he won't accept the contention that there are unexplained UFO reports which are challenging and interesting; while our properly skeptical UFOlogist has no problem with accepting both that many reports can be explained and that there are challenging and interesting UFO reports which cannot be explained prosaically.
For years we have been talking about Roswell, Area 51 and other Big World mysteries related to UFOs without realising that we have our own enigma in Northern Europe ˜ in a place where everyone can freely travel and, which is openly shown on the Internet. Hessdalen lights have been seen ever since the 1940's and now it is, as we know, the only place in the world, where UFO phenomenon is monitored by a camera around the clock.

The following information is based on their testimony. R
Some early UFO cases involving occupants, such as those in the ’50s and ’60s, involved more often than not creatures that resembled human beings in most respects. In the Grey-and-Reptoid-haunted 1980’s, 1990’s, and today, it is almost heretical to suggest that any other possible form of occupant can emerge from a UFO. But human ufonauts remain an intriguing part of the picture, and their very existence has suggested very disturbing possibilities to certain investigators.
Hypnosis has become a most popular tool in the field of abduction research. The understanding of its intents and abilities by the general public though are still widely relegated to the earliest erroneous notions of its being a trancelike state with suggestability and retrieval of repressed memories being the most noteable of these traits. Research into the validity of hypnosis and its traits has been done for 200 years yet the only truly revealing research has taken place in the last 30 or so odd years. Research which has shown a much different facet of its nature.

Two Russian scientists, professors Sergey Chernouss and Vladimir Pivovarov, both working with the Polar Geophysical Institute near Murmansk and members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, have also been investigating Russian UFO-raports for several years. In an interview with UFO-Swedens magazine UFO-Aktuellt they describe their work and thoughts about the UFO phenomena.
Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) constitute the #1 worldwide scientific mystery of the last half century. They have been seen by hundreds of thousands of people in almost every country. They have been tracked on radar and photographed. They have left impressions in the ground, and burn marks on witnesses.
When I tell people I've done UFO research, they react in many ways, most of them interested and sympathetic. But often they ask an irresistible question. Have I heard any crazy stories?
Majestic Documents.com is a groundbreaking look at the United States UFO program called Majestic and the top secret government documents that tell the story of presidential and military action, authorization, and cover-up regarding UFOs and their alien occupants. A remarkable work of investigative journalism, this website is the first to authenticate top secret UFO documents that tell a detailed story of the crashed discs, alien bodies, presidential briefings, and superb secrecy. Special attention is paid to the forensic authentication issues of content, provenance, type, style and chronology. The story the documents tell leaves the reader with little doubt that the cover-up is real, shocking, and at times unethical.

The most recent winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, former President Jimmy Carter, has long been interested in the peaceful co-existence of humans on this planet. If historic records are any indication, however, it appears that the former President has long held a similar interest in peaceful relations with extraterrestrials who might be visiting this planet, since his sighting of a strange unidentified object in Leary, Georgia in 1969.
During the late 1980's and early 1990's, John Lear, a Lockheed L-1011 Captain and son of the famous inventor of the Lear Jet, started coming forward with some startling revelations concerning the subject of aerial phenomena and Unidentified Flying Objects. R
The difference between the average man’s 50th birthday party, and Podesta’s, is that Bill and Hillary Clinton hosted Podesta’s party. The theme of the party was extraterrestrials, or more accurately "The X-Files" a TV fictional drama about the government conspiracy to cover up the existence of extraterrestrial life. The reason for the X-Files theme was that John Podesta was a man openly obsessed with the show. Reporters referred to Podesta as "the unofficial leader of the X-files Club in the West Wing of the White House."
With the coming of "glasnost" it became known that the most formidable department of the USSR had been collecting documents concerning UFOs in the so-called "Blue Folder"-KGB documents that were taken off the security list in October 1991 upon the inquiry of Russian cosmonaut Pavel Popovitch. Many copies of such documents are kept in the archival depository of the Russian Geographical Society's Ufological Committee. The fact of UFO existence was more than once confirmed by Soviet military men. UFOs were observed from the ground and from the air, as well as registered on the radar screens.
Budd Hopkins' cases -- people who believe they have been abducted by aliens. Excerpts from interview by PBS NOVA.
Interview with Budd Hopkins, leading abduction researcher and author.
IT IS generally agreed that most UFO reports can be explained if sufficient and accurate information about them is available to investigators. It is said, though, that a small number of reports remain unexplained despite careful investigation, and that it is reasonable to suppose that these are sightings of extraterrestrial spacecraft. This is known as the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (ETH).
The Air Force is now ready to concede that many saucer and fireball sightings still defy explanation; here LIFE offers some scientific evidence that there is a real case for interplanetary saucers.

Stories of UFO crashes form a persistent part of the UFO controversy. Whether they contribute ultimately to UFO folklore or fact will be a matter for history. With the prominence given to the Roswell saga I have put this report together to encourage feedback on this colourful area. R
One of the things I've always enjoyed about researching the Roswell Incident, especially since I moved to Roswell in 1996, was the number of locations, structures and buildings that could be seen or visited in the area, which had a direct or indirect connection to the incident in 1947. Whenever other researchers, friends, family or media personnel visit me, I always take them to some of these locations.
As the 21st century unfolds, radically different forms of air and space vehicles will replace the clunky machines of today, whisking passengers at ultra-high speed around the Earth and outward into space. I was surprised to find in late 1998 that attempts were being made by several individuals, primarily a Dr. Robert Wood, an engineer, and his son Ryan, a marketing and sales specialist in the computer industry, to resurrect the MJ-12 controversy. They have claimed to have received new documents supporting the notion the U.S. government actually investigated alien spacecraft beginning in the 1940s, under the banner of "Majestic-12, supposedly a panel of eminent scientists and government officials.

Conventional Wisdom has it that we live in a free and open society with a free press, which plays the role of a key check and balance on government secrecy and abuse. This and other fantasies, foisted on a gullible public, have enabled runaway illegal secret projects to get away with murder, and they are now on the verge of planeticide - the killing of an entire planet. The truth is that we have free media - so long as it is inconsequential.

But amusing as all this is -- I could tell crazy UFO tales all day long -- it's not the crazy stories that matter. It's the sane ones. To understand the UFO phenomenon, you need to hear firsthand accounts, from reasonable people who aren't looking for publicity, like the woman in her twenties and the older married couple, who -- in separate incidents -- told me they saw something really huge pass overhead in silence, flying low, at treetop height, some years ago in the Hudson Valley (an area with many reports of such sightings).

In August 1977, a sky survey conducted with Ohio State University's "Big Ear" radio telescope found what has become known as the 'Wow' signal. But a hitch remains: the signal has not been retrieved from other sky surveys, making it more anomaly than confirmable cosmic source. R

Our world exclusive article in last month’s issue of UFO Magazine provoked exactly the sort of debate that we expected, with all sorts of comments and questions being raised. I am often asked if I can give an answer to the official reticence in the matter of flying saucers. I am afraid that there is no single reason, only a combination of circumstances, each contributing in their own way to a situation which would be ludicrous if it were really not so pathetic.

Over the years, I have decried the misuse of the term "skeptic" when used to refer to all critics of anomaly claims. Alas, the label has been thus misapplied by both proponents and critics of the paranormal. Sometimes users of the term have distinguished between so-called "soft" versus "hard" skeptics, and I in part revived the term "zetetic" because of the term's misuse. But I now think the problems created go beyond mere terminology and matters need to be set right. Since "skepticism" properly refers to doubt rather than denial--nonbelief rather than belief--critics who take the negative rather than an agnostic position but still call themselves "skeptics" are actually pseudo-skeptics and have, I believed, gained a false advantage by usurping that label.
After decades of dealing with debunkers' attacks upon anyone reporting UFO abductions, I am still amazed at the ill-informed and often cruel nature of these published assaults. I am not referring here to diatribes against investigators like myself, because, as Harry Truman pointed out, to be in the kitchen involves a certain amount of heat. Instead, I mean attacks against the abductees themselves, the innocent men, women and children who have dared to report their suspicions of ongoing UFO
N.V. Vasilyev has prepared a lengthy review of the 1908 Tunguska "event," which is usually ascribed to a wayward comet or meteorite. Vasilyev's data is based upon 167 reports, mostly in Russian. Statistics show that across the world UFO sightings occur at a rate of around one every two or three minutes. Not surprising then that pilots of commercial airliners should be high on the list of people to have most witnessed them. R
"Anyone familiar with the subject is aware that UFO abduction reports almost always include accounts of physical examinations performed inside the craft. The abductee usually lies naked and immobile on a flat table while one or more of a wide variety of physical operations are carried out. There is, however, one virtually universal detail in these procedures that has never, to my knowledge, been commented upon in the literature: the abductee never seems to feel any degree of shame or embarrassment about his or her nudity."

On March 13, 1997, one of the most massively witnessed UFO sightings occurred in the skies over and around Phoenix, Arizona. Witnessed by thousands of people and photographed by hundreds, there is no doubt that something was seen over the skies of Phoenix that night. The question remains - what did they see?

Our research into the Flying Triangle "UFO" (which we are becoming convinced is actually a family of such vehicles, and which do not all necessarily use identical propulsion systems or have similar uses) has lead us to believe that the most likely main propulsion system that is employed by craft, similar to that seen in West Wales in November 1996, is of an electrical nature.
A humbling possibility. That's the way some officials in the country's religious communities are describing NASA's recent discovery. Theologians say the possibility that life exists on Mars moves beyond an "anthropocentric worldview" -- one that places humankind at the center of the universe. R
Researchers in the field of mind control suggest that these cases are evidence that the whole UFO abduction phenomenon is staged by the intelligence community as a cover for their illegal experiments [2]. The open-minded researchers who are trying to gain respect for abduction research ignore these stories, since they represent only a minor fraction of the cases in their files. R
Shortly after President Carter came to power in January 1977, Daniel Sheehan, then General Counsel to the United States Jesuit National Headquarters - National Office of Social Ministry in Washington, D.C., was reportedly approached by Marcia S. Smith, Director of the Library of Congress’s Science and Technology Division of the Congressional Research Service.from 1984-1985. Sheehan reported that he was asked by Smith "to participate in a highly classified major evaluation of the UFO phenomena, and extraterrestrial intelligence."
Of all the Presidents that have been faced with the UFO problem, George Bush seemed, on the surface, to be the best qualified President to have been given the secret. He spent a year as Director of Central Intelligence, the head of the entire United States Intelligence Community for President Ford. Then as DCI, he was in charge of giving intelligence briefings to Jimmy Carter during his transition to the Presidency in 1976.
The second strong indicator that Bush was not open to UFO disclosure came from the experience of John E.L. Tenney, the co-founder of M.A.I.N, or the Michigan Anomalous Information Network. His efforts to get campaigner George Bush to talk about UFOs met with the same failure that Peter Robbins had experienced.
Prior to becoming President Gerald Ford was a Representative representing Michigan in the U.S. Senate, and also Minority Leader in the Senate. In 1966 Michigan experienced hundreds of UFO sighting. The reports of weird dancing light produced quite a furor.
President Harry Truman is the first President to have to deal with the UFO phenomena publicly. There may have been sightings and/or UFO crashes before Truman, but nothing that had to be dealt with publicly. More importantly, Truman was the first President who had to deal with the public relations problems that go along with the UFO phenomena.
President John F. Kennedy may have had more than the usual knowledge about UFOs, according to several credible sources. R
As with many other U.S. presidents, there was a report that Kennedy had sighted a UFO. The event occurred in 1963, while boating off Hyannisport on Cape Cod. The object was "disc-shaped, about 60 feet in diameter, with a grey top, and shiny bottom." It hovered above the water for 40 seconds, emitting a low pitched humming sound. Then it flew straight up in the air and was gone. Kennedy swore those present to keep the incident secret.
Supermarket tabloids, that strange breed of sensationalistic American journalism, have been talking for most of the decade about Ronald Reagan's fascination with things like astrology and space aliens. Little attention was paid to the matter ... after all, the stuff was printed in the tabloids and nobody sane is supposed to believe in them. Yet truth is becoming stranger than fiction in the case of Ronald Wilson Reagan and some of his more curious remarks. R
Even though the Nixon Presidency was short and rocky, a number of UFO stories and related space developments did take place. Nixon, for example, was the President who was able to take credit for an achievement dreamed of and initiated by President Kennedy. He presided over the landing of the first men on the moon in July 1969. Nixon described the Apollo 11 mission as the "greatest week in the history of the world since Creation," a statement that brought criticism from his close friend Billy Graham.
A question remains, however, as to how much of the UFO secret was given to Reagan the President. Reagan like the many Presidents before him had tens of thousands of issues being dealt with below him in the government. Only the most critical items were brought to the Oval office for his attention.

Project 1947, an examination of the beginning of the UFO era, had as its main goal screening 1,000 North American and 400 foreign newspapers during the main concentration of UFO activity in 1947, 24 June through 15 July. Since this project started in February of 1995, thousands of cases have turned up. The number of 1947 newspapers screened worldwide is now well nearly 5000!
The amount of published UFO information is truly staggering. In North America there are probably well over 300,000 newspaper stories! Because of the many Researchers around the world using video footage to educate and inform other researchers and the general population of these events through Video Productions, Print Media, Seminars, Conferences and over the Internet, we now need to eliminate the evident confusion when describing individual UFO sightings, particularly multiple object sightings.
Could some UFO sightings actually be manifestations of Other Intelligences (OIs) or Non-Human Intelligences (NHIs) such as extraterrestrials (ETs), visiting the earth and interacting with human beings? Or are all reports of such sightings simply mistakes, hoaxes, or dreams of the hopeful believers? It all comes down to explanation.
Irrevocably connected to the Paul Bennewitz case is a document which has been called many things including "bogus." In 1952, the Director of AF Intelligence admitted more than 300 cases of radar tracking and visual sightings confirmed by radar. In the ensuing years, there have been at least 2,000 additional radar cases in the U.S. alone. When the full story of the UFO's is written, radar will prove to have supplied indisputable technical evidence which finally convinced many previous skeptics.
Radar sightings of UFO's are remarkably common, and also the most authentic. The word of expertly trained operators, backed up by tangible echo returns from unidentified intruders is hard to deny. R
In a June 14 Alien Zoo column the question was asked, “What does the ‘politics of UFOs’ mean?” The answer: making the case to the general public why their personal vital interests and their nation’s vital interests are served by a comprehensive and truthful disclosure of the facts known to their government relating to the extraterrestrial presence. Events intervened delaying a follow-up column making that case, until now.

The reality of Operation Majestic 12 (MAJIC 12 or MJ-12), and the highly classified documents associated with it, has been a disputed question in ufology for more than eighteen years. For the average person with an interest in conspiracies and UFOs, Randle's book would at first appear to be the definitive work on the subject. A much more careful review of this book, in conjunction with reading such other sources as References 1-5, leads one to a very different conclusion: namely that "Case MJ-12" is more a work of propaganda than of investigative journalism.

It is my assessment that ufology has failed to recognize the importance of how the Extraterrestrial presence profoundly threatens all terrestrial elites. This includes the international corporate, military, political and religious leaders of our planet. Without recognizing and thoroughly analyzing this challenge to terrestrial power, those interested in understanding the phenomenon of Extraterrestrial spacecraft visiting our planet, will be hopelessly confused. It is safe to conclude that the Soviets (before), and the Russians (now) are preoccupied with the strange and sinister creatures lurking in their waters.
The claimed 1947 "alien autopsy" footage, acquired and marketed by Merlin Productions, a small London video distribution company owned by Ray Santilli, has now been seen, and in may cases believed, by tens of millions of viewers in over 30 countries world-wide. Through a selective presentation of the facts and selective editing, programs like Fox network's "Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction" have misled the public by giving the impression that a number of interdisciplinary experts, including pathologists and film-makers, feel that the Santilli footage milt be genuine.
Healthy scepticism is good, but this kind of scepticism is ridiculous. Non-awareness is NOT synonymous with non-existence, and disbelief in something does not in any way detract from its reality. No one can create a fact by making a statement, and no one can get rid of a fact by denying it.
Readers familiar with the writings and lectures of the late Dr. Allen Hynek may recognize in the above title an expanded version of one of his most quoted bon mots, "Science is not always what scientists do." After viewing the recent Nova program which systematically and outrageously distorted the UFO abduction phenomenon and my work in the field, it's fair to say that Nova has abandoned its right to be thought of as either objective, balanced, or scientific.
Secrecy permeates the UFO field. What does this mean for Ufology as a science? Answer: the field cannot really be handled scientifically within the public domain. The great model is the Manhattan Project. When a project is undertaken at highly classified levels, you will find nothing of value about it within the mainstream. This was true during the development of the atomic bomb in the 1940s; it is true regarding the UFO.

I'd be the first to recognize that any information has to be verified and there are numerous ways of doing that, which would be considered ethical, honest and respectful. Unfortunately there are other ways also, which I have recently experienced. These include; not confronting me directly, questioning my credibility, or worse, ignoring questions I've asked and being selective in responding to those questions.

With this article, the author wishes to shed some light on some of the occurrences when unknown form of writings have been retrieved or observed during or after a UFO sighting. In most of the cases, the contact or the observer has believed the writings to be alien in origin. Proof of this does not exist. On the contrary, in several cases it is clear that the explanation lies elsewhere. Clas Svahn, a reporter for UFO-Aktuellt here offers the reader a few case files to ponder.

This article is essentially an excerpt from the new edition of UFOs and the National Security State, with some minor changes. The book version, in turn, is expanded from the first edition. This article will surely irritate some people, but if you study the covert aspects of UFOs long enough, you must at some point reach the figure of J. Allen Hynek. Like so much in this field, Hynek is not as straightforward a subject as he at first glance seems. This article appears in the August/September 2002 issue of UFO Magazine.
Since January 1950, when TRUE published my first article on UFO's (see page 6), there has been a tremendous change in the public attitude toward Unidentified Flying Objects. Before, the "flying saucers" were ridiculed by most Americans. Only a small number knew the dramatic evidence - confirmed reports by veteran pilots and other competent witnesses. Even fewer knew of the Air Force Top Secret Estimate of the Situation - that the Flying Saucers - officially Unidentified Flying Objects - were interplanetary vehicles engaged in a long observation of the earth.
South America has some of the most amazing UFO encounters on record. Especially remarkable is the sheer variety of the sightings which range from straight forward accounts of flying objects to abductions, landings, cattle mutilation, as well as contactee accounts and strange beings that emerge from oddly shaped craft. The Russian UFOlogists have failed. The ultimate test of the Russians' ability to perform mature, reliable UFO research is how they treat "the smoking gun" of Russian UFOlogy, the Petrozavodsk "jellyfish" UFO of 1977. The "jellyfish" was a brief wonder in the West before being quickly solved (by me) as the launch of a rocket from Plesetsk.

The arrival of Dr. Steven Greer in the world of ufology signifies a marriage of sorts between two antipodes of thought. On the one hand, Greer has raised the banner – trampled and abandoned – that was carried years ago by Donald Keyhoe. This is the fight to end UFO secrecy. Like Keyhoe, Greer has given it an extraordinary effort for more than ten years, focusing on "nuts and bolts" cases, briefing high level government officials, pressing for Congressional hearings, and gathering many people from the military who are willing to put their careers (and worse, some say) on the line to discuss it. This is his Disclosure Initiative, culminating in the press conference of May 9, 2001. For better or worse, it was a historic – that’s right, historic – event in the history of ufology.
Abductions are complex series of events and procedures directed by the abductors to passive or controlled abductees. In a typical or common abductions, humans are taken out of their normal environment by aliens.
This essay, runner-up in the National Institute for Discovery Science essay contest, deals with the question of collecting evidence of extra-terrestrial intelligence (ETI) activity on Earth and to a lesser extent in the solar system.
This type research is full of stress at times, but everyone deals with stress differently. Truth and honesty are to me, of utmost importance in keeping my sanity and being able to pursue the research that I have come to enjoy for the occasional benefits derived from it, without being stressed out in the process.
Since ufologists are human beings, they cannot expect to be stress free. In fact, they experience some unique forms of stress very much like that experienced by explorers, research scientists, and entrepreneurs. How can UFO organizations help their workers deal with stress? Are there some common sense steps available to ufologists for stress relief? This paper provides answers to these questions and more.

Section on Project Hessdalen from the Sturrock Panel Conference Report, "Physical Evidence Related to UFO Reports". R
If the only strange things seen in the sky were a few oddly moving lights, or some specks glinting in the sun, there would be no UFO problem. But there have been many close observations of these strange objects. In addition, physical traces of various kinds have been left behind, and witnesses have experienced physical and medical effects, including injury and death. Of all of the reported sightings, between 5 and 25% (depending on the sample) remain unidentifiable to expert examination. These are the real UFOs.
If there is one area of research that gives scientists more laughs, investigators more headaches, and skeptics more ammunition, it is that of mental communication. If there is any type of communication between human beings and otherworldly visitors, it seems to be telepathic 95 to 99 percent of the time. That, in itself, is an incredibly high correlational statistic that places the incidence of this form of communication well above chance or fantasy.

The most important findings of this study include the fact that UFO sightings have continued to be reported at a more-or-less constant level over the past several years. People still report observing unusual objects in the sky, and some of these objects do not have obvious explanations.

There has been an apparent lack of well-documented abduction cases in Australia. The authors therefore decided to review the situation on two fronts. Incredible claims have been made about Bob Lazar for years. He supposedly is a physicist with an MS in Physics from MIT and an MS in Electronics from the California Institute of Technology. Massive scientific expertise has vindicated Billy Meier's spacecraft photographs, according to his supporters. These claims however should be pitted against the rather different conclusions of skilled ufologists.
While most sights described as UFOs turn out to be misidentified known natural and artificial phenomena, many hundreds do not. It is these that form the core of the UFO mystery. That UFOs constitute a distinct category of describable sights is based on hundreds of highly detailed and consistent descriptions by professionals (especially airline and military pilots) of their close-up, broad daylight observations of unique flying machines.

There is a quantum leap in technology that surfaced a half-century ago that, if exhibited today as in the early phases, has either severely degraded or has been replaced by a vastly inferior one. It doesn't make much sense. It's as if someone wrote a story about evolution and got the chapters mixed up. Either that or ET has sent most of its fleet back home.
In the version we were allowed to read, Haines made two basic points. The first was that, although the CIA was concerned about UFOs until the early 1950s, it has since "paid only limited and peripheral attention to the phenomena." Second, Haines stated that from the mid-1950s until the end of the 1960s, "more than half" of alleged UFO sightings in the United States were actually of classified and/or experimental aircraft such as the U-2 or SR-71 spy planes.
Let us be clear: regardless of the reality behind the UFO phenomenon – whether it represented an alien intelligence or human psychosis – the summer crisis of 1948 had many people in the American military and intelligence community thinking about this problem, and considering all solutions, including the extraterrestrial one. In a few brushstrokes, however, Gerald Haines painted a rough sketch implying exactly the opposite of what the historical record actually tells us. The extraterrestrial possibility was never considered, according to Haines. But the historical record (and the many military UFO reports from the 1940s) clearly shows that it was.

Classified high-altitude, long-duration flights of huge Skyhook balloons, which often returned their secret payloads to the surface, began in 1947 and continued for several decades. This secret Cold War program was the likely progenitor of many key aspects of UFO mythology. R
The negative conclusion of the Report is more apparent than real however, since there is a substantial discrepancy between the conclusion in the "Summary of the Study" written by Condon singlehandedly, and the conclusion one could reasonably draw from the evidence presented in the body of the Report.
Hynek does not agree with the Condon Report and in this review essay he tells why.
Several types of physical effects have been presented as evidence that an object of unusual nature had been present at a given location. Such effects consist of: markings on ground, vegetation, or objects with which an UFO, as something from an UFO, reportedly made direct or indirect physical contact; material residue allegedly deposited from or by an UPO; articles or portions of articles manufactured by intelligent beings, but reportedly not produced by known cultures.

At around 2 a.m. on the morning of May 22, 1949, America’s first Secretary of Defense, James Vincent Forrestal, fell to his death from a small window of the 16th floor of the Bethesda Naval Hospital. The decline and death of Forrestal is an unresolved problem of history. There is no question that he suffered from a spectacular mental breakdown during 1948 and 1949. Exactly why he did so is less certain, but the answer may have relevance to American national security and the pesky topic of UFOs.
It is the question most often asked. “How will it happen?” A more important question is, “How should it happen?” Both deserve an answer. Putting optimism aside for a moment, our first recipe serves up an order of “will.”

Some reports of UFO sightings involve events in which motorized land vehicles experience ignition or electrical system interference in the presence of a UFO; 276 such reports were collected from the UFO literature. These events were analyzed to determine the role played by position of UFO and distance from UFO to vehicle in the severity of the reported electrical system interference. A highly significant relationship (p .001) was found between position of UFO and severity of effect. A substantial majority of the cases experiencing complete engine failures (stalls) occurred when the UFO was reported either directly in front of or above the witness' vehicle.
This paper intends to present the elements of the UFO problem, today. Truly unidentified reports of events in the air, and close to the ground, exist, events worldwide in origin and appearing to fit a relatively small number of patterns. The data, amenable to study of an interdisciplinary nature, involving a number of scientific disciplines and probably necessitating new departures in methodology, have been imperfectly studied in the past and have been virtually ignored by science. The extraterrestrial hypothesis, or ETH, is formulated consistent with the accepted scientific framework for hypothesis induction. How well has the government responded to the popular belief that it is concealing evidence of ufo's? Here is what seems to be the standard conservative view: Since there is no basis for the popular belief to begin with, any attempted response on the part of the government is only likely to stir that pot and thus be counter-productive. The opposing view is that by inadequately responding, the government is contributing to the perception of a cover-up.

UFOlogy in the Soviet Union has had its ups and downs, and it has been an enigmatic source of puzzlement to Western observers. The publication in 1979 of an official report from the USSR Academy of Sciences takes on remarkable significance, since it plainly states that the officially-denounced UFOs are "real" in a mathematically provable sense. This is exactly counter to the official government line.

In the period 21 January - 26 February 1984, a group of researchers from "Project Hessdalen", was investigating a luminous phenomenon that was occurring with strong recurrence in the area of Hessdalen in Norway. Various instruments were used in order to monitor the phenomenon. In the present work, an attempt has been done to try to explain such a phenomenon, based on the data achieved during the investigation period.
It is difficult to find one theory that covers all the different observations that has been done, and which is based on the common knowlegde that exist "today" of our nature and our universe. If we split the observations in different fields, and say that they have nothing to do with each other, it might be possible to discuss possible explanations on some of these fields.
'We came to Washington, D.C. on a direct challenge that had been made on a National Television Network as to the authenticity of newly released information by the National Security Agency (NSA) concerning Project Aquarius; and other documents released via Freedom of Information Act requests which would indicate that a Project Aquarius truly exists.' In his book UFOs and Outer Space Mysteries, UFO skeptic James E. Oberg proposes a hypothetical test case to demonstrate that there is probably nothing of significance to the UFO phenomena. If one was to search his book for any reference to UFO waves one would come up empty handed. He ignores the subject entirely. The reason, I suspect, is he knows that therein lies possible proof that UFOs are a serious phenomena and distinctly different from simple misidentifications or overly active imaginations. R

As we look back at 1960s ufology standing at the city gates, we might ask ourselves: was there ever a true chance for success? The military and intelligence "handlers" of the UFO problem had resources and capabilities far beyond that of NICAP or any civilian researcher. Fifty years of ufology have shown time and again how civilians have underestimated the resources and resolve of the military-intelligence community to manage this problem. If we today cannot be confident that even the president is fully informed of UFO reality (who can say how much he really knows?), is it realistic to think that private organizations in the 1960s could have done any better? And what about today?
There are two primary and closely connected reasons why UFOs are not treated seriously by the scientific community and the mainstream press. One is their acceptance of the work of the U.S. Air Force's Project Blue Book UFO investigation of 1948-1969. The other is their acceptance of the report of the University of Colorado's study of UFOs in 1966-1968, paid for by the Air Force.

The progress of science depends on a finely tuned balance between open-mindedness and skepticism. Be too open minded, and you'll accept wrong claims. Be too skeptical, and you'll reject genuine new discoveries. Proper skepticism must be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater. The work-hypothesis named SETV predicts that exogenous vehicles and/or probes may have reached the Solar System too, including Earth. The possible presence of probes of possible extraterrestrial origin on our planet may be ascertained by using a network of sensing stations which are placed in critical areas. In-depth report of quality cases and analysis of the UFO phenomenon. "Stereotypes die hard. The myth among scientists that UFOs are a "nonsense problem" without any substance was firmly established more than 50 years ago and persists until this day. The cases used as illustrations in this report are chosen partly to refute the stereotypes and partly to show the recurring patterns and observational details, with special emphasis on the numerous areas of potential scientific research that would be possible if UFOs were accepted as a real phenomenon and funding were available. Strong human testimony establishes clearly that the structured UFOs featured here are a product of technology, not a natural phenomenon. The only remaining question is: Whose technology?"

The conclusions of the Colorado University UFO project are fully negative, as we predicted. However, some of the chapters contain strange contradictions of what the project's director, Dr. Edward U. Condon, stated in his two opening sections. Several reports state the probable existence of structured, intelligently controlled, unknown objects capable of precise maneuvers and extremely high speeds.
Aliens have never had it so good. Their friends the Raelians are claiming to have cloned humans; their PR agent on earth, Steven Spielberg, has just unveiled a new TV mini-series, Taken; and now science is starting to take them seriously. An interest in the existence of cosmic neighbours is no longer the preserve of shadowy conspiracy theorists or sci-fi obsessives: respectable academics are now in on the act. R
The Tunguska Explosion is by many considered to be caused by an exploding UFO over Siberia, Russia in 1908. Even today people are trying to solve what caused the explosion. Everything from a comet to some unknown phenomena of the nature has been suggested in over 70 essays. R
The very fact of the existence of the so diverse views suggests a situation where the phenomenon in question is difficult to explain in all its aspects. Indeed, profound analysis of the factual data on the phenomenon evidences its structural complexity and seeming contradictoriness which restrict its interpretation in traditional terms. It is thus suitable to dwell upon certain most serious difficulties which are to be coped with in any attempt to construct an integrated concept of the Tunguska phenomenon.
In 1908, something exploded in an isolated area of Siberia. What was it? There are several theories as to what caused the great explosion in the sparsely populated forest at 62 degrees north latitude, but there is no definitive proof for any of them. Nearly 100 years later, the debate about the Tunguska event continues.
What is important is, first of all, the special place occupied by the Tunguska problem both in science and in anomalistics. The volume of well-established empirical facts collected and analyzed in this field, as well as the number of serious theoretical models developed to account for these observations, probably outweighs all those found and proposed in other anomalistic fields put together. R
The author describes how he got into the study of the UFO abduction experience, a bit of the history of the field, the phenomenology of UFO abductions, who the abductees are, his use of nonordinary states of consciousness in working with them, some of the physical evidence involved, what effect being abducted has on the abductees, and his interpretation of the meaning of the experience. UFO abductions are not a rare phenomenon and have been estimated to have occurred to three-million Americans. There is a remarkably precise correspondence to the reports. Abductees exhibit relatively little psychopathology.
The problem is NOT that there is not enough evidence to justify my conclusions; but that most people, especially the noisy negativists, are unaware of the real, non-tabloid evidence.
"Debunkers seem to employ four major rules: A. What the public doesn't know, we certainly won't tell them. The largest official USAF UFO study isn't even mentioned in 12 anti-UFO books, though all the book authors were aware of it. B. Don't bother me with the facts, my mind is made up C. If one can't attack the data, attack the people. It is easier. D. Do one's research by proclamation rather than investigation. It is much easier, and nobody will know the difference anyway."

The sun does not revolve around the earth. The United States government has been in business with little gray extraterrestrials for about 20 years. The first truth stated here got Giordano Bruno burned at the stake in 1600 for daring to propose that it was real. The second truth has gotten far more people killed trying to state it publicly than will ever be known. R
Over thirty years ago I compiled this documentary report (The UFO Evidence - 1964) for the leading UFO investigation group, the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP) in Washington, D.C.
Over thirty years ago I compiled this documentary report (The UFO Evidence - 1964) for the leading UFO investigation group, the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP) in Washington, D.C. Few people at that time were aware of the scope and consistency of UFO reports by credible witnesses such as scientists, professional pilots, police officers, and even U.S. Air Force personnel. The Air Force was officially charged with conducting a UFO investigation, but maintained that nothing of any importance was being observed.
The arguments made here are not conclusive. We cannot say with certainty that our planet is not being visited. We can, however, note that those who support the idea of ET visitation have always had a heavy burden of proof, a burden that has only grown heavier as time has passed. We skeptics, who find this idea implausible, have a lighter burden, and it gets lighter with time.

If the only strange things seen in the sky were a few oddly moving lights, or some specks glinting in the sun, there would be no UFO problem. But there have been many observations of these objects at close range by groups of credible witnesses. In addition, physical traces of various kinds have been left behind, and witnesses have experienced physical and medical effects, including lasting injury.
As was the case in Russia following Perestroika and Glasnost, there is a similar process underfoot in China since that country's opening to the West: more information has been known about this country's UFO activity over the past two years than for the past fifty. R
This half-million-dollar, 965-page report probably represents the ultimate case against the UFO "cult" – in fact, it was to be the last scientific word on that controversial subject. But, paradoxically, the report contains some evidence suggesting that the UFO phenomenon should be studied further.

The subject of crash retrievals is an important one in Ufology. The potential for obtaining hard evidence of UFOs and occupants is a Holy Grail for researchers, but it has proven as elusive as the chalice itself. All of these cases have been thoroughly investigated, and the evidence is in the public domain for all to see and consider. R

One of the more frustrating aspects of the UFO phenomenon is its unpredictability. One of the mainstays of the scientific method is the repeatable experiment. In the case of an unpredictable and elusive phenomenon this is rather hard to organise. Occassionally UFO phenomena occurs in specific localities for an extended period. These are refered to as localised "flaps". R
A vast majority of the record of UFOs exists on paper, with the remainder contained on audio and videotape, photographic film, electronic storage (computers), and in the memories of living witnesses and participants. The most fragile of these records of knowledge are the memories of people involved. Once people pass on, that record is lost forever. Even living, illness or age can change an individual memory record irreparably. This is unless one or more of the other media mentioned above preserves the recollections of those individuals.

Although the vast majority of Americans are completely unaware of its existence, the UFO/Nukes Connection is now remarkably well-documented. The summer months of 1997 saw ufology in the public eye to a greater extent than any time than I can remember. But despite all this exposure, was the cause of ufology actually advanced? Indeed, are we at all clear what we mean by ufology, and what its aims should be?
A list of 106 cases of electromagnetic interference by UFOs has been compiled. Msgr. Balducci is one of the best-known and most respected Italian theologians. We publish his paper for the first time in an English translation. It is indeed noteworthy, since it is the very first detailed statement of a senior Roman Catholic theologian and Curia member on the UFO phenomenon. More than that, it demonstrates the openness of the Roman Catholic church in this question and can be considered the first ever complex positive statement regarding the UFO/ET reality from the point of view of a major world religion - with its over 1 Billion faithful, the RC Church is indeed the largest religious community on Earth. Even if the UFO phenomenon should turn out to be deeper than we imagine, even should it prove to transcend science as we know it, the scientific approach is the only feasible way in the real, political, economic, technological world we live in to give us some chance to control our dealings with this phenomenon, rather than letting the phenomenon entirely control us... if such it is.

The UFO problem is a real one. It has involved military personnel around the world for more than fifty years, and is wrapped in secrecy. Over the years, however, enough pieces of the puzzle have emerged to give us a sense of what the picture looks like. What I have tried to do is very simple: to use as many of those pieces as possible in constructing a clear, straightforward, historical narrative of the UFO problem, focusing on the national security dimensions.
The Air Force has been chasing-and usually shooting down-such stories since the late 1940s. No less a figure than J. There are still a surprisingly large number of people who seem to take all UFO reports with complete equanimity and, as it were, refuse to see anything "nasty" anywhere in it. Major news media and many members of the scientific community have taken strongly to the radio-telescope based SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) program as espoused by its charismatic leaders, but not supported by any evidence whatsoever. In turn, perhaps understandably, they feel it necessary to attack the ideas of alien visitors (UFOs) as though they were based on tabloid nonsense instead of on far more evidence than has been provided for SETI.

"I don't believe in UFOs or aliens." So expounded a guest at a recent social gathering I attended. It seems they felt obliged to state this, even though not one word had been spoken on the subject throughout hours of polite Memorial Day weekend conversation. The comment was clearly proffered for my benefit, since this person knew that I am a student of the phenomenon, and an activist in working towards open public disclosure of our government's considerable, unconstitutional, and easily documentable involvement with it. The comment, and the completely unprovoked context in which it was stated, solidified for me the amazing degree to which ignorance is worn as a shield of pride by people in our culture.
The MOD has today published the results of a once-highly-classified official investigation into the existence of Unidentified Flying Objects. The report concludes that UFOs exist - but are a mixture of natural and-man-made phenomena, rather than evidence of extraterrestrial life.

Some people in the UFO field have an idea that the “government” is planning open disclosure ever so slowly, ever so gradually, and that a key method for doing this is through the media. I find this unpersuasive for several reasons.
As we grow older, several things in our physical and mental being start to change; sometimes without our knowledge, and sometimes obviously with it (as in our physical appearance). One of the most significant elements in the history of UFOlogy was the so-called Condon Project, centered at the University of Colorado in 1967-1968. This paper discusses the origin, methodological philosophy and overview of the research problem, the activities, results, and external impacts of this work. The paper finds a complex mix of personalities, attitudes, and theories enmeshed in political and social forces, which predestined the project's conclusions and crippled its ability to make any scientific contribution toward the solution of the UFO mystery. Its resultant impacts were nevertheless formidable, both negatively and positively.

Many people know sighting reports about UFOs - strange objects that fly trough the air of our planet. Only trough the air? Discussion on any subject is good and should be encouraged, as new theories, allegations, and claims are introduced and “kicked around”, however when facts and documentation no longer support that, it’s time to move on to new ideas and thoughts. Such has been the case in recent months on this subject of ufology.
Because of Dick Cheney's high White House positions in past Ford and Bush Sr. administrations, the appearance of Cheney's name on the George W. Bush Presidential ticket, led many ufologists to feel that Cheney might represent an attempt by the government to make a disclosure on UFOs.

After 50 years of UFO photographs and images, perhaps we have an interesting paradox. As we strive for that elusive one photo, or clip of footage, that actually proves beyond doubt that a UFO is from 'elsewhere', the methods at our disposal actually cast more and more doubt on what that image might show.
This article continues some themes I discussed in "What Are They?" This time, I discuss some of the dangers we face as a civilization over the next twenty years; dangers which could well result in an infrastructure collapse. If we can hang on, however, the development of advanced machine intelligence will give us a very wild ride indeed. Either way, the civilization we have now will be unrecognizable -- within the next generation or two. Big changes are coming. There are some relevant UFO themes here, as well. This is really the first time I have tried to express my thoughts on what exactly is behind the UFO phenomenon. It took me a long time to consider writing such thoughts down; indeed, it took some time to come to this understanding. I offer this piece as a speculation. I do not pretend that I have any better claim to the truth than the next theorist. I will say, however, that I would offer my interpretation against any others, and haven't really found anyone else making this argument. As far as I can tell, the argument I present is unique. As always, I am interested in comments from interested readers. This article appeared in the June/July 2002 issue of UFO Magazine.
It is a strange phrase - other worldly, ambiguous. It’s also a standing joke which goes like this: the lobbyist/activist is lurking at some soirée or another in Georgetown or Bethesda or the Capitol. Amiable chatting is taking place, harmless banter, until that magic moment occurs when the unsuspecting attendee asks innocently, “Now what is it that you do?”
We consider an egg as alive, but regard the Aurora Borealis as a non-living physical phenomenon. Textbooks of Biology and Physiology offer no explanation. This is strange. No textbook on jet engines would neglect to define a jet engine, nor would a reference work on Mammals fail to remind us what distinguishes a mammal from other creatures.
WHAT is the responsibility of the scientist confronted with observations that seem not only a challenge but sometimes also an affront to science? How does one discharge this responsibility? The UFO phenomena presents us with such a problem. To most scientists who have no acquaintance with the subject, save that gained from scanning the popular press, it is an "untouchable" area. Flying saucers indeed!-the product of immature, imaginative, and even unbalanced minds, the playground of the pseudo-scientist and the quasi-mystic, the haven of the crackpot.
U.S. Air Force and civilian radar experts know enough about temperature inversion to be sure that it doesn't explain the strange objects they've seen on their scopes in Washington, and in other places.
Public opinion polls show that over 50% of adult Americans think UFOs are "real," over 70% think the government is hiding information about UFOs, and 40 % think that the government is concealing information proving the existence of UFOs, presumably hardware or bodies. Only one out of three are skeptics.
For more than 50 years, men and women around the world have reported sights in the sky that are strange to their experience and understanding. We take a look at the most common explanations for these sights.
This was going to be called "Official vs. Unofficial Culture" but I changed my mind. Essentially, this article is about what we know, why it matters, and why it doesn't. There are differences between knowing the truth and being able to act upon it. Yet, there is reason for optimism. Appears in the April/May 2002 issue of UFO Magazine.
Ending the secrecy surrounding the UFO/ET subject is a laudable goal. It is long overdue. It would transform the world in ways both simple and profound. And yet it is fraught with danger. There are multiple scenarios attending the disclosure of the UFO subject-and not all of them have the best interests of humanity at heart.

Primarily I suggest the organization of a National Public Fact-Finding Commission made up of prominent Americans who would hear presentations of the data over a period of time, and ultimately issue a report making recommendations. I discuss how such a Commission might be organized, how it would operate, and what it might be able to accomplish.

Many of us -- believers and skeptics alike -- have trouble thinking clearly about UFOs. Is that because we're frightened?
I'm telling this story to illustrate a phenomenon I'm tempted to call UFO denial. I'm a UFO believer; push me up against a wall, and I'll say I think the damn things are real. But I didn't want to believe those stains. I found myself thinking, "Yo, give me a break. Alien stains -- who does Jacobs think he's kidding?" Show me alleged tangible evidence, in other words, and I run away from my belief.
Captain Edward J. Ruppelt was the head of USAF's Project Blue Book in its first year, which was initially meant to be an honest and public investigation on the problem of the UFO reports. Long after his retirement from the Air Force, he wrote the following article for TRUE Magazine; which published it in a special issue on UFOs. He told further things which he omitted in the present article, in his book "The Report on the Unidentified Flying Object", 1956.

During the past 50+ years, experts of every kind have tackled the UFO mystery, but to no avail. All have failed in their attempts to supply a plausible answer to the question "what are UFOs?" Every answer given to date has been hypothetical and never proven. I believe that a big part of the problems lies in the fact that UFO investigations are always backward looking. We have dealt with the problem as a history mystery, not a real-time mystery. And nothing is going to change until we become proactive rather than reactive in our approach.
As more and more is made public about the flying saucer research of Canadian Project Magnet Director Wilbert Smith, it becomes more and more apparent that Smith enjoyed a high “need-to-know” on the subject, and at least temporarily held a close relationship with those doing the highest-level research in the United States. Agencies included the CIA, U.S. Navy, FBI, NASA, and the U.S. Research and Development Board.
So you've had a close encounter with a UFO. Or a serious interest in the subject of extramundane life. Or a passion for following clues that seem to point toward the existence of a greater reality. Mention any of these things to most working scientists and be prepared for anything from patronizing skepticism to merciless ridicule. The National UFO Reporting Center, located in Seattle, WA, was founded in 1974 by noted UFO investigator Robert J. Gribble. The Center's primary function over the past two decades has been to receive, record, and to the greatest degree possible, corroborate and document reports from individuals who have been witness to unusual, possibly UFO-related events. The principal means used by the Center to receive sighting reports is its telephone hotline, which has operated almost continuously since 1974. During that period, the hotline has processed many tens of thousands of calls, and the Center has distributed its information to thousands of individuals. The hotline is well known by law enforcement agencies, FAA ARTCC's and flight service stations, National Weather Services offices, military facilities, NASA, and many 911 emergency dispatch centers all across the United States and in many parts of Canada. Those entities routinely direct the calls they receive regarding possible UFO sightings to the Center.
